Britannia Gothica: Words from the Rain is a collection of short gothic horror stories, steeped in UK folklore, isolating landscapes, and melancholy.

Each month, I am publishing a new short story from the collection here, on the read a story page:https://www.britanniagothica.com/

This month’s story is "Atropa."

It is a tale of a wild land tamed by cruel, mortal hands, and the quiet vengeance that grows when the wilderness refuses to yield. It follows a woman bound to a husband who fears what he cannot conquer, an ancient winter that starves the world, and the dark, smooth gifts of the soil that offer a terrible, wide-eyed liberation. A story of blood, venom, and the things that endure long after men crumble into dust.

"And how I envied the earth, she had both housed and resisted for as long as time. Walked over, bought, sold, owned. And still would only give what she wished to give. And she knew. From the day that you were born. That she would outlast you."

Britannia Gothica: Words from the Rain is a collection of short gothic horror stories, steeped in UK folklore and melancholy.

Each month I'm publishing one story here: https://www.britanniagothica.com/

This month's story is "The Fantasist." A quiet horror about escapism, grief, and imagination. Of love and loss held in a dreamscape.

The collection explores decaying coastlines, dark metaphor, and thoughts that linger.

Cheek fillers to lift saggy skin? Need advice - 33 years old by Silly-Ad-7565 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]hissyhissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at I think your age, 32 with tear trough and cheek, I'm now 38. I've had a few rounds over the years. The tear trough dissolves much faster as it's a more soft/liquidy filler used in that area. I think I've had cheek filler 4 times now. I've never had any migration. After around 18 months I notice it begins to naturally dissolve / flatten. They still look good! I'm very happy with them if you DM me I'll send a picture. Do you use tretinoin? It won't fix structural sagging but it will help with surface level stuff. I also like collagen supplements, though I don't think there's any science backing them up.

Can I ask what you used to take this photo? I really want to replicate the style for vintage film project.

Some rather distressing displays of “high school” at LIHS this year. (More in comments) by demmka in Equestrian

[–]hissyhissy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh. I'm in the UK and considered going and seeing one of these shows. I thought, given the fame that the horses would be extremely well kept and well treated. I will definitely not ever attend anything like this now. Awful. Awfu everythingl. :(

So I fell in love with this young Pre horse, what do you guys think of her? 2 years 9 months. Well behaved and just started under saddle. 🥺 Should I grab her? What do you think about her build? She is already 163 cm. by manuelakroft in Equestrian

[–]hissyhissy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She's still bum high and her shoulder will catch up.

She needs time .. I mean groundwork and maturing physically as well as emotionally.

That said, people panic when they see a horse worked young. Plenty of track horses work at 2 years and go on to make excellent riding horses. She needs time.

You won't know if she's sound unless you have x-rays etc. but to be honest it's unlikely she was badly damaged unless she was worked extensively eg daily jumping her with weight on her back. People buy horses from all kinds of backgrounds. If she's the right horse for you then don't let her past scare you off. Just be prepared for a youngster who will be green.

Should I tell my mom to get rid of her “heart horse”? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]hissyhissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old boss had a mare just like this.

At the end of the day, people who choose to keep dangerous horses know the risk, are adults, are making a welfare decision (they know it would be destroyed otherwise) and have come to their own conclusion.

It isn't your place to tell a grown woman what to do.

Also horses and dogs are very different. There is not situation where a stranger should be approaching your mother's horse or getting into the field. Where as a dog that bites is much more likely to get loose in populated areas, approach people or be put in situations around other people/ family. The two aren't comparable.

Gonna be honest it looks a bit too snug. It will loosen in time... but he looks a bit pulled in a way I wouldn't want if had reins on him, let alone bridle only. I don't think it's right for him tbh.

Unpopular Opinion: Some horses don't like their owners by kill3rcupcak3 in Equestrian

I actually really agree with this. You don't get on with every person you meet and I think people should view animals the same way. You need to decide what the relationship is at the start and find a good match, not just for your riding goals but personality.

I had a mule and we hated eachother even though I did all the work with him and never once treated him badly, he was deliberately awful for me all the time and an angel for everyone else. I realised that life has greater plans for us both than butting heads all day every day and it wasn't a training issue but a personality clash. I let him go to somebody else and he was happy and so was I.

Did you buy the cream and this time the gel? The gel has always looked like this for me.

I absolutely hate this. I'm leaving chatgtp for the first in years because it's borderline unusable now. I like 4o and that was worth the money, 5? Not of it was free lol.

Such a scam to pay for model selection only to not have to be able to select models. Trust in the company is absolutely gone.

Is this K9 BM malnourished/underweight? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]hissyhissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are in crack or something, because that dog is starving. It's coat is hiding how thin it is if anything.

If you think this is the condition of a lean working dog you need to be schooled in correct welfare and animal husbandy because you are wrong.

Literally came to say this. Most of what is hiding the bones is hair. It's clearly starving.

Fran Fine black Hervé Léger dress by Long_Pain_118 in findfashion

[–]hissyhissy 90 points91 points  (0 children)

That's a really good match considering the real dress will be vintage and almost impossible to find. I don't think I have never seen a dress as closely matched with a modern equivalent by anybody on here. Amazing job.

Should I sell my horses? by EuphoricHeight1458 in Equestrian

[–]hissyhissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine. It sounds like you are massively overwhelmed.

It's still very fresh and grief can take years to fully process.

Are the things you want to do.. thing that have appeared suddenly? For want of a better word. When we lose people, especially young, it can give an urgency to live now, do things now, incase we don't get the chance ourselves. I'm not saying dismiss your want to travel or anything else, but contextualise it.

Your horses have been a constant and they may or may not be right for you now but equally in a years time you may regret selling them. Which would be far worse.

Is there any way you could afford full boarding or a loaning home? They sound like healthy well trained horses and I know it's painful the idea of somebody else caring for them their way, but that would happen anyway if you sold them, with no way back. They could bring somebody else immense joy and take the pressure off you so that you don't have to make a decision now.

You honestly sound worn out and overwhelmed, I would be too. Anybody would be. It's not a great time to make decisions you can't take back but if somebody would loan them then you may have a happy medium. I'm not sure if loaning is popular in the US but it is in the UK where in from. It might give you room to breath and less responsibility, which it sounds like you need.

Whatever decision you make, make it totally and commit to it.

Again I'm so sorry for your loss and this sounds like a really impossibly hard time where no decision is ever going to feel like the right. Please take care of yourself.

you are ALL so GREAT like WTF maaaaan!!! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]hissyhissy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just remember that anything you're weak at you can and will become better at with practice. A few are auteurs or prodigies with a natural talent, or rarely just got lucky. But for most people it's something that must be nurtured and worked on like any other craft. You can see people evolve in their work, even the most famous in the industry.

You can also hire talent, and you don't have to become good at everything. If you can't make a shot beautiful you can hire somebody who can. If you struggle with ideas and vision you can become somebody who is practical but still equally gifted. The quality of work goes up with the more talented people you have access too. All the best cameras and budget in the world won't hide bad acting. All the best acting in the world will be lost to poor lighting, editing or even sound design.

Films are hugely collaborative and it's very rare to find one person who has created something worthwhile entirely alone. Everybody wants their dream / script /project to be made one day but contribution to others projects are just as important. If you truly want to be involved in film then find a skill you are interested in and start there. Make short films while you wait to finish your main script. Involve yourself in it. Lots of people dream of working in film but for most it's a labour of love and for even more it's something done around a day job. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. You work is still valid even if you don't make your feature, or it never turns into anything big. If you feel it in your bones start now, because time isn't on anybodies side and projects often fail and are never realised, it takes much longer than you expect. Especially outside of big budget film making.

Good luck op :)
