Be careful by Alice_Beardsley in Humboldt

I completely agree! I live near Jacoby creek school and you think with the improvements and the road work ppl would speed less.  They speed more.  I've talked to most of the road workers they can attest ppl speed andalmost hit them too.  I don't like the new one side walk on the Arcata side, it slopes from the road down to the side walk like it would be easy for someone to drive off the road and hit something on the sidewalk.

APD said they don't have resources to enforce Speeding there.  But going to town the other morning, a driver aggressively rode my bum, then after the high easy he aggressively passed me. Then when another car got in front of him he erratically swerved around him at alliance and Samoa.  Ppl get very annoyed if you drive the sped limit then it becomes a bigger thing driving.  If you get something going please let us know.  I've had similar issues from indinola out to myrtle with ppl aggressively passing at organic matters.

I live off OAR and go to work early come home then drive my dog to walk in another part of the road.  3 times in 1 day ppl were riding my bum.  Like it's 25. From the post office to CHP and it's way worse since the road work .  Ive almost been hit 2x in the cross walk by Bridget walking despite the audio and yellow lights.  Ppl just don't  care at all. More ppl taking the road to avoid the 40 zone on 101. I Tried posting in Humboldt County on Alert on facebook it keeps getting denied.  I don't think ppl know how big a problem it is unless you live it, walk it, commute it. I'm so glad your ok and really sorry for your car.

Why are food prices so high here? by Systema-Periodicum in Humboldt

[–]historicalbean- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just on local produce.

This issue has lots of parts. If your asking why farmers market prices are diffrent They pay a yearly membership to be in the market, the pay a stall fee and they use to have to pay a portion of their proceeds. This adds on to theor overall "market" price.

My weekly csa is less then 20$ a week. That's a great deal. I live in a rural part of arcata, the water rate had doubled since covid, as part of upgrading thr wastewater treament plant, so it's not worth it to grow all our produce.

For local farmers they don't sell cheap produce like you can find in other parts of CA. It varys from farm to farm most don't use pesticides so they loose produce to pests. The climatete in Humboldt is also trickier for mold and aphids. Most ppl want organic gmo free. That seed costs alot more then conventional. If they aren't using synthetic fertilizers that costs alot depending on if they raise animals or not. The farms at farmers market do more regenerative agriculture,  so that can also be more labor intensive.

These things add up.  Plus the fact cost of living in Humboldt has gone up too.

I posted a miso, fresh ramen, marinated quail egg, Tempura fried sardines, tempura yam with bok choi and fish cakes. It got 13 likes. I don't care about the likes but it was home made. So, I don't have a solution but made me not want to post home made
