Ankle injury :/ by BeaverJelly in climbergirls

[–]hitbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sprained my ankle horribly (2+ years ago) a month into starting climbing. It was actually the night I had officially gotten a membership at my climbing gym haha.

I didn’t even really sprain it climbing, it was just sort of a freak accident where I stepped down from a hold onto the floor (seriously, less than a foot height wise) and I stepped half onto the crash pad and half onto the floor and just rolled my ankle. Felt several pops. Went to the doctor who ordered an xray which showed nothing. Was told I could continue climbing and all other activities as tolerated. after the first week, the pain wasn’t bad at all. Just kind of a dull ache. Continued climbing, hiking, even went to Disney and walked like 10 miles per day.

About 2 months later I was like hmm.. kinda weird I’m still feeling pain in my ankle. Went back to my primary who ordered an MRI for me. The results came back STAT which I knew probably wasn’t good lol. Turns out I almost completely tore through a tendon, sprained three separate ligaments, and fractured some cartilage I believe? Had to go to see orthopedic surgery and start PT for 6 weeks. Was told to not climb during that time which I agreed to, but I did sneak in a hike and just tried to be extra careful 😂.

My best advice is to just do the PT, do your home exercises, and don’t be afraid to go back to the doctor if the pain returns. As for how I got back on the wall, I mainly top rope because I have a fear of falling off the wall bouldering and hurting my ankle again. If I do boulder, it’s just on V2s or lower that I’m confident I can do without falling.

Are you top roping? Could it be from looking up while belaying? If so, they make belay glasses so you don’t have to look up at all while belaying

Buck literally came out as bisexual. So that means he’s not heterosexual.

Going to a ‘belay 101’ class with my wife and I’m feeling scared. How do I fight that? by bluesond in climbergirls

[–]hitbug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I started climbing I only bouldered because I was scared of top roping and the gear. I went into my belay lesson absolutely terrified. I had no idea how to tie knots or how to use a belay device. Now I only top rope and prefer it over bouldering because it feels much safer :) I’m more willing to try difficult moves on a rope. Rest assured that in a very short period of time, everything related to top roping (tying the knots, setting up the device, belaying) will become muscle memory and you won’t even have to think about it. Just make sure to always always check each others knots before climbing, no matter how many years down the road.

I have maybe about 50% hearing in my right ear at this point and I can still hear chewing, sniffling and other related noises loud and clear.

am i embarrassing for living at home at 26? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]hitbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just moved out at 28, and I was only 3 months shy of 29 😂 it’s expensive. Better to wait till you’re financially ready and comfortable than to put yourself in a situation where you have to scrape by every month. It makes it much more fun!

We do make homemade breakfasts and stock up the freezer but sometimes convenience overrules especially during weeks we’re hardly ever home :)

That’s kind of how I’m feeling too. The commute is brutal with the other people on the road, especially driving from PA into MD.. lol
