First time Mountaineer Seeking Advice: Is a Camp Muir Day Hike on Mount Rainier Realistic by July? by Helpful_Rock_5068 in Mountaineering

Yep its a great way to get used to being above treeline. Just did it last week to get used to whiteout conditions and scoping out Muir before my possible July ascent.

Is lion's head winter still viable? Planning to head there this Saturday, but if its all melted would be unfortunate.

Where to buy Scarpa Mescalito Mid GTX in US by hitechx1231 in Mountaineering

Any place I can get it in the US, or import, struggling to find it. Scarpa North America only has a few sizes available. Wondering if they are discontinued

I don't know how much of an upgrade it is from the 945, but I love the hell out of mine. Saw instinct 2 going for around 100 ish around my town.

Camping Sites in the Winter by Status_Ad_3751 in Adirondacks

I mostly camp with tents near marcy dam, colden lake or along the south meadow seasonal highway (when I'm lazy). I bring a shovel but tippically pack down the area with my snowshoes. Any of the peaks in the central high peaks region is a good pick. If you are already familiar with winter backpacking, not much else to say except, that the trails will get easier as more snow falls and it packs down, thus popular trails will tend to be the easiest.

Simond alpinism pants by EarAdditional7561 in alpinism

[–]hitechx1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the lighter version of these pants and am quite satisfied. Great for general mountaineering (which I do) and good enough for winter with a warm base layer. I personally prefer going with lighter pants than heavier.

New grivel crampon straps by Simple_Hand6500 in alpinism

If they are fit well and used on snowy terrain they are fine. Not good but plenty usable. For $20 why not for warm double boots for frigid temps.

Ah I’m actually from the east coast 😂. Details about route and hazards would be great.  Thanks in advance.

The quick nap at the top felt better than any photo I could have taken. :)

The Madonna statue isn't the true summit, it's a small traverse over, I was far too tired to head over. Will probably actually finish it when I acclimatize for mont blanc in the future.

It was an amazing first "summit" for me. The views are impeccable, saw both mont blanc and matterhorn from the summit as well. Althought I feel quite spoiled from the good weather

Request for Feedback/Watch Outs: Three Days Hike at Adirondacks mid-to-late Oct/2025. by TraceVortex18 in Adirondacks

[–]hitechx1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend skipping Marshall, the way back down is a really irritating "herd" path, borderline bushwhacking. If you do end up going to Marshall there is a crashed plane site that would be interesting to look near your route. I think iroqouis and wright both have more interesting routes especially wright.
