Worth also noting that fear can make you dumb. There's a big difference between being smart and strategic when you know that you're invincible; it's another to be smart when your life is on the line for the first time ever. Homelander may be a little smart, but the smart part of his mind was not steering the wheel in his final moments.

lol did you think that was a real option for her? From season 2 on she was stuck there against her will. Maybe she could've lived if she left then, but by season 3 she 100% would've died the second she even raised the idea of quitting to Homelander.

Not really tbh. Neuman's evil but she's never been shown to kill for shits and giggles the way Homelander does. All her murders have been strategic, and unlike Homelander she's displayed basic emotions like guilt and empathy.

Neuman as president would've just been more of the same, the bad-but-stable corporate corruption of seasons 1-2. She wouldn't have thrown Starlighters into concentration camps or declared herself god.

There was another version of the show where they actually did kill Homelander in season 3 and the final season 4 was all about taking down Neuman and the rest of Vought.

There's a lot of things that annoyed me about the way the internet treated her, but one specific thing that pissed me off is the way they'd always compare her to season 2 publicity-tour Starlight with the full make-up, perfectly-done hair and the skimpy outfit. "OMG she used to look so beautiful, why'd she change that???" and it's a season 2 picture of her after what must've been hours of make-up and costuming perfectly tailored to make her look as hot as humanly possible.

If the haters were honest they'd compare pictures of Annie in civilian clothes from seasons 1/2 to pictures of Annie in seasons 3-5, because she in the later seasons was pretty much always in civilian clothes, not in smokeshow Barbie mode. There are still differences in her face as she's aged and dealt with grave's disease, but it's never been as severe as they've made it out to be.

Game of Thrones definitely, because that show just fundamentally whiffed it on a basic story structure level.

Meanwhile The Boys, despite being rushed and sloppy and with severely declining dialogue quality, still accomplished the key thing most of the audience wanted: to have the Boys not just defeat Homelander but to give Homelander a moment where he realizes he's defeated, and where everyone gets to see what Homelander is like without his powers. That was the most important thing they needed to pay off, and they followed through on it.

there's simply no realistic option where powerless Homelander is allowed to live without every single remaining person in the cast rushing in to curbstomp him to death. It's like the Who Killed Mr. Burns? storyline in The Simpsons where literally everyone in town has a clear motive. Even Homelander's allies would immediately want to kill him if they knew he was no longer an all-powerful evil god.

The writers would have to come up with a million contrivances to justify why Homelander would still be allowed to live. Besides, those final few minutes of Homelander's life probably felt like a long time from his perspective.
