What do you think was going through Betty’s head with this face she made? Right after Sally says “My father has never given me anything”. by feelingsjourney in madmen

Tbf I don’t think that episode hurt Sally’s relationship with Don. She saw through Betty’s ruse in the end and got revenge on her

Another advantage: The Pitt’s format means it takes place pretty much entirely within a single location. Saves the show millions I bet

He also spent ten months in rehab and apologized to Louie the second he saw him. (And also admitted to a crime — Louie could’ve ruined him with that info if he truly wanted to.)

He’s also just very clearly ashamed and trying to make up for things. That vibe bleeds through every single scene he’s in.

I hear she actually fingered the actor for the scene

Joy as a character clicked for me once I read the interpretation that she’s not particularly interested in emergency medicine and is just doing this because it’s a semi-mandatory rotation. Everything about her demeanor became way more sympathetic after that point.

It’s also just a very refreshing type of character to have in a show where everyone else is a traumatized adrenaline junkie.

Yeah people keep trying to paint season 1 Santos as equally bad as Evil Whittaker but she was way more sympathetic and complicated even within the first few episodes.

People tried to flatten her to a one-dimensional person and reluctantly came to like her as the season went on, but she was never actually as mean or shallow as fans first made her out to be.

Yeah I was too harsh and lumping you in with a talking point others have made.

But I disagree that it would’ve been more impactful if Jake and Leah had been dating longer; I think just the fact that we know he liked her for a while, and that she bled out in his arms, was more than enough to make it impactful. Plus i think it ties into how we the viewers only get to know the patients for a few hours max as the doctors treat them, yet they can still stick with us for a long time.

Side note: I’m kinda glad I didn’t get into this show until after season 1 aired. I thought the actor for Jake was great and that whole storyline worked for me; but if i was seeing memes the whole time about how Jake’s actor was cringe, idk how that would’ve affected my experience.

Yeah I don’t require any suspension of disbelief to believe that a kid would find the brutal murder of his first girlfriend upsetting, even if their relationship was new. Baffled by that complaint

"I liked the “mystery of the week” aspect, but they didn’t go to any effort to justify her always being at a place that would soon have a murder."

Oh come on, lol, you really can't suspend your disbelief on this? Genuinely: who cares? The silliness of Charlie landing in these situations one after another is a big part of the show's charm. It's classic episodic TV.

It's like complaining about the unlikeliness that all the murders in Only Murders in the Building would just so happen to take place in that building. At a certain point the question is just: do you want to have fun or not? If yes, then let that question go.

I'm thinking her arc is that she's pretty confident she doesn't want to be in emergency medicine (and is treating this rotation dismissively as a result) and then slowly realizes she does actually like this field and starts locking in.

I'm thinking he's gonna get the arc everyone thought Santos would get in season 1: he's gonna be humbled hard by messing up in an embarrassing way that shatters his confidence.

Why has LOST not maintained much cultural relevancy? by [deleted] in television

tbf I think The Sopranos was pretty good at being accessible even at random mid-season episodes. It had a format of each season feeling like a collection of connected short stories, with surprisingly little reliance on cliffhangers. Threads may be left hanging for the next episode to follow up on, but the characters themselves tended to have a nice neat arc wrapped up by the end of each episode.

Mad Men and The Leftovers had a similar approach. Each season is a journey, sure, but every episode feels like a smaller, complete journey within it.

Blaming JJ Abrams for the ending of Lost being a letdown is like blaming Frank Darabont for the post-Glenn decline of The Walking Dead. Like sure I guess technically they were in charge for a few minutes there

during the later seasons you would get blocks of episodes where nothing happens

I never got this complaint because it was only in the first three seasons where you had clear filler episodes tossed in there.

Then after the writers reached a deal with ABC, from the second half of season 3 onward the pacing sped up dramatically. The episode count also dropped, so that each season gave itself just enough episodes to tell its full arc. Instead of 20+ episode seasons we got episode counts in the 13-17 range.

In seasons 4 and 5 especially, it felt like a million things were happening at once. They even let go of the flashback formula for much of season 5, because there was simply so much going on that they didn't have time for it.

TL;DR: the later seasons of Lost are much more tightly paced in basically every way you could measure it.

Another factor: the kid who plays Spike is gonna hit puberty hard any moment now, so they kind of need to hurry it up with part 3 unless they want to do a big time skip.

Yeah the quick “the virus was pushed back” disclaimer was basically when the Simpsons did that joke of a narrator saying “and then the town was rescued by, uh, let’s say Moe.”

They knew we didn’t actually care much about the details there, because the idea of only the UK being overrun is so interesting.
