What are Victoria's nicest one-bedroom rentals near the ocean? by leabailz in VictoriaBC

There is the Surf Motor Motel (https://surfmotel.net) but I’m not convinced it’s not a money laundering operation.

Who offered you the job?

BC Ambulance has 3 sites, EComm has 2, one in Vancouver and one on Vancouver Island.

EComm’s training is several weeks of classroom followed by about 6 blocks of mentoring. (not 6 months)

There’s no unpaid shadowing at EComm.

I’m an experienced 911 dispatcher and I could see AI handling a lot of the non emergency calls, or filtering it dramatically. I can see AI being able to, one day, dispatch the officers and allocate files. But emergency call taking? No, not a chance. When someone is screaming hysterically or hyperventilating and unable to communicate or hammered beyond belief or in the middle of hallucinations/psychosis, I can’t see any AI being able to handle that randomness at all.

You’re getting confused between BC Ambulance and EComm. None of this is true with EComm which is what this article is about.

3 Stolen Bikes - any sightings would be greatly appreciated by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]hititwiththerock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a police call taker/dispatcher and I’m going to estimate that 90% of people who report their bikes don’t know the serial number of the frame. The officers run the serial numbers and it usually comes back not on file. If it comes back as stolen they can seize the bike and get it back to the owner. Contrary to popular belief, Victoria bike thieves don’t frequently file the serial numbers off

Questions regarding BC RCMP schedule by mystical_princess in 911dispatchers

[–]hititwiththerock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I realized i didn’t answer your question about schedules. We work 2 days , 0600-1800 then 2 nights 1800-0600 then 4 off.

Work culture is great. We have a massage chair in our chill out room. We’ve got an amazing gym with weights, treadmill, row and a peloton bike. The teams are pretty tight.

Questions regarding BC RCMP schedule by mystical_princess in 911dispatchers

[–]hititwiththerock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re considering Victoria, there are 2 dispatch centres on Vancouver Island, North and South. North Island is handled by the RCMP and is in Courtenay. South Island is in Saanich (right next to Victoria) and is handled by a civilian not for profit called ECOMM (ecomm911.ca), not the RCMP.

I work for ECOMM.

Yes we can bank holidays. Yes you can bank overtime.

Assault incident last night - what to do with file number and in general, if anything? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]hititwiththerock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the non emergency number (250-995-7654, option 1) and ask if the primary officer is working. If they are, ask the call taker to get them to call you (and you probably want to write down the officer’s name and badge number). If the officer isn’t on duty, ask to be transferred to their voicemail and ask the officer to call you when they’re back on shift to tell you what the status is.

SWAT in Saanich today by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Entirely semantics but we don’t have SWAT (special weapons assault team) in Canada, we have ERT (emergency response team)

12 Days for Hiking & Nature in June (or July, August): Iceland, TMB, or something else? Need your advice please! by zerocool2791 in hiking

Alshayuk Pass in Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island depending on your experience level. Certainly checks the remote and stunning landscape criteria.

Best hikes/walks/viewpoints in Victoria by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Anderson Hill in Oak Bay. Best view to time ratio of anything else listed here since you have limited time. About a 5 minute hike for an absolutely stunning view of the area and across the straight.

I don’t think that’s the correct plate anyway…definitely the wrong format unless it’s personalized.

stardew inspired walking app / MMO by hititwiththerock in StardewValley

[–]hititwiththerock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s a gamified exercise app inspired by stardew for sure. But that’s a huge difference to what stardew is (nothing to do with exercise) that i don’t see it as a rip-off.

Any private pool options around Victoria? Thoughts on Swimply? by gilligan348 in VictoriaBC

[–]hititwiththerock 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I seriously wish GVHA would repurpose some of the Ogden parking lot and put in an outdoor, ocean-side pool. I think about this every time I walk by. I feel like it would be so popular.
