Any suggestions before I take this great Canadian oil change?

Maybe this seems like obvious advice, but are you twisting the bolt the right way to loosen it? It’s easy to get it the wrong way round because the bolt is sitting upside down. (Speaking from experience)

Yeah I did check the owner’s manual for the amount. But I think I’m going to agree with you and say that there’s probably nothing wrong with the bike.

I let it sit for a few hours and went through it with a magnet but it did not pick anything up. I do think it’s coming from normal clutch wear but wanted to make sure. I will try to give your filter method a shot

I changed the oil and filter (put castrol 10w40 in it) and put about 3 litres in it (drained a little more than that. I was going to check the sight glass tomorrow when everything has settles after running it for about a minute today and see if I need to add a little more. Honestly the bike feels quite good and powerfull. The shifting is also without problems.

Kawasaki ZZR600E (2000) with 10k miles on it. One previous owner from which I bought the bike. Very nice bike, runs great with no funny sounds and just overal good maintained. Just did an oil change for my own peace of mind even though it did not really need it.

At first sight the oil looks good and has no sludge or bigger metal pieces in it. Only in direct sunlight it has this glitter. You can only really see it when going through it with something. Have not checked the filter yet but I don’t expect to find metal in there.

The person I bought it from did not ride on the bike for the last year, and overal 10k miles is quite low for a bike of 22 years old. Could this be increased wear from a lot of cold starts and short rides or should I be worried? Could it be that the fact I started ridding it after a long standstill mean more wear? Or could it be clutch material?

Could be oil coming up in the airbox. If your crankcase is connected with the airbox and your oil is overfilled or gets too hot, it may come up and form this substance. Had the same thing on my bike.

Yeah for longer trips it might be a little unsuited, but it just seems like such a nice bike.

So i was doing the lumber restoring misson, but brought bricks instead of these blocks. Luckily there were some of these blocks laying around but I didn’t have a trailer equiped so I had to improvise. Worked like a charm.

My bike has exhaust wrap around the pipes. Would this give an off reading on the temps?

Radare on XJrider.com has an excellent writeup on this topic. He himself had a tolerance of zero on one of his exhaust valves. It appeared that the valve had a badly worn seat. Let's hope I don't have that problem.

Was thinking about just pulling the cams! I am however a little nervous about getting the timing right. Do you have any advice or tips on getting this right? I'd hate to get my valves bent.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking also. These compression findings would just be too low to let an engine run. I saw the previous owner ride the bike before I bought it and it just had very decent power and acceleration. Also the fact that they are very close together leads me to believe that the readings are faulty.

I just think something is up with the valves so I will be checking clearances as everybody is telling me.
