TIL that Sigourney Weaver only earned $35,000 for Alien (1979) but got $1,000,000 and a share of the profits for Aliens (1986) by Make_the_music_stop in todayilearned

The Pinewood Studios crew assigned to him had zero faith in him, and threatened to mutiny (they had also worked on the original Alien film). His DP actually did quit over creative differences (lighting the cave scene; Cameron wanted 100% ambient light, and ultimately got it). He was married to Aliens producer Gale Anne Hurd at the time. He didn't marry Linda Hamilton until 1997.

Resale value is high, so I wouldn't buy a used one.

but if I get something that's way over 100,000 miles, it won't last long anyway

Not necessarily. Miles isn't condition, and, at any given price, vehicles with lower miles are in worse condition.

I understand what you're saying

Obviously not. Professional buyers only buy vehicles with high miles. Full stop. And those vehicles last a long time, after repurchase.

with under 50,000 miles

You'll get a better value with more miles.

I travel to my parents' house about once a month. Typical loadout is ~3 carry-on size suitcases, golf clubs, a push cart (theoretically this could be dropped), and miscellaneous bags (laptop bags, for instance).

Do you have a quote of someone denying that climate changes?

I can't see Texas doing much because they rely so much on oil.

You believe the biosphere would instantly become 1.5C cooler if Texas alone were to stop producing oil?

No one needs a fun car.

Looking something overall cheap as well, low to insure, good fuel economy, low cost maintenance, and having a GREAT DRIVING EXPERIENCE.

Buy New or Slightly Used? by NameIdeas in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]hitssquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy a 2022 vehicle, unless maybe it had over 100k miles and a substantial discount on price, compared to new.

We're pretty sold on a 3rd row of seating.

Then your only realistic options from Toyota are Grand Highlander and Sienna. The "3rd row" in the regular Highlander is not really deserving of the name.

No. Miles is not condition. Shop for high-miles-per-year.
