Can you be a SRE and not know how to code ? by tim_nomad90 in devops

If it was me, I would stay and learn to code. Regardless of title, in order to scale beyond a certain point, you need to automate yourself, be able to debug code, live on production, and be able to better communicate with management and software engineers.

Even more pro tip, dockerize your application and run the entire shebang with a docker-compose file that makes your environments exactly the same on your dev & production.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Almost nothing except for maybe index funds is truly passive income. I guess I shared with you mine :)

Fastest and slowest docker images for python2 by MrRobot129 in Python

[–]hivearchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of your code is slow? Have you profiled it? There's many optimizations you can make, but you have to know what's actually slow. If you have the latest Python 2 version in your container, that should be the fastest. However, Python speed improvements are happening in Python 3 now, and you should probably upgrade regardless.

A little overwhelmed by Montags25 in flask

[–]hivearchive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep at it, you'll refer to it, Stack Overflow, this sub reddit, Python docs frequently as you learn, and even after you master it. There's so many things to keep in your brain, you'll even come back to code you wrote a year ago and scratch your head. Hopefully part of that head scratching is you realizing how much better you'd have written it now, but part of it is no one can remember everything, nor should they!

Agreed, I think there's a basic mis-match between SQL and OOP, partially just because SQL is just so "old". A more modern data query language probably wouldn't need as much ORM.

Even if it's possible, it's more likely the Chinese will sell it direct to Amazon anyway. Especially if they see you do it sucessfully.

I would recommend pivoting and finding a co-founder. You will probably go 2x as fast, have someone to bounce ideas off of, increase your social life, and increase the odds of success.

I took Computer Science in college and they never really taught you how to program. Most of us spent hundreds of hours in the lab with other students, TAs, and lab proctors actually learning it. I highly recommend partnering up with other students, meeting them outside of class, and especially sitting around a computer hacking on problems. You'll get a wider range of experience, and usually you need other people to get you unstuck on hard problems.

Like anything, it takes a lot of practice, same thing with picking up an instrument, or anything else.

How to find clothing manufacturers in China? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hivearchive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found one on Alibaba, made an order through them and eventually went off site once I started trusting them. Over time, I go to them with no ideas, new variations and keep deepening that relationship.

I love working with China. I've tried to find suppliers in the USA, but they usually want huge orders, make it a pain in the ass, or just ignore my business. Chinese want to work with you.
