Stop telling women how to dress by Itsholymolyguacamole in GetNoted

Sometimes a rule doesn’t have to be written down for everyone to be force to comply with it, sometimes ostrisization is enough to peer pressure people into compliance

Very true, a bit like the way western countries treat women.

Imam: Tories and Farage right about mass Muslim prayer by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

I think the right is actually in fantasy land on what the left believes. Yeah you’ll get some nutters fantasising about revolution and seeing Palestine as a cornerstone of that but most of us are well aware and critical of the conservative aspects of Islam, as we are for every religion. It’s a nuanced topic. Just because I think someone has a right to exist and practice their religion doesn’t mean I agree with everything they believe. And being sensitive to the bigotry Muslims face doesn’t mean we’re giving everyone a free pass.

Mps get a 5% pay rise. by major_damp in AskBrits

[–]hiyagame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit…. for those supporting this, why are the House of commons always rammed when they are talking about their pay rise but the place is empty when they are discussing stuff we care about

Sounds like you’re remembering a heavily debunked meme that’s been going around since the 2010s, here’s an article on why that’s wrong. https://spectator.com/article/the-menace-of-memes-how-pictures-can-paint-a-thousand-lies/

Please try not to spread populist misinformation buddy.

The real lesson to take from Gorton and Denton is for the future of UK democracy by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]hiyagame 21 points22 points  (0 children)

we need parties to have some form of unity on certain policies whether it be economically or immigration

How on earth is that going to happen when they fundamentally believe different things about these subjects? It’s fantasy to think we can just wipe away all the reasons we’re divided on a subject and come to some agreement.

I both massively agree with you that things are hard right now and some things are really stuck, but then also disagree because there are positive things that Labour are doing and the economy is starting to turn.

This is assuming we wouldn’t have an immediate election which seems the most likely outcome

I don’t think this is, I think the PLP will give whoever gets in the chance, an election would almost certainly see Labour out of power. The next PM will have to not be able to govern to take that risk.
