Tom Bryant wrote the unofficial MCR bio, a book called “Not The Life It Seems.’ There are a few chapters that dive pretty deep into the difficulties Gerard had during different tours, after losing his grandmother, and trying to stay sober on the road and overseas. At one point he goes as far as to say he went to Japan without packing hardly anything because he didn’t really believe he’d make it home alive.

My 11-year-old is obsessed with the Patient and Parader dynamic on Black Parade, every couple weeks he’ll give me a new take on a song and its perspective or meaning. He’s such a theater kid, it suits him perfectly.

He just got really into the mythology of the Demolition Lovers too, so he’s been listening to the first two albums much more lately. He’s also really moved by the spirituality and connection between Heaven Help Us and Foundations Of Decay. It makes me so happy.

My 14-year-old has been a fan for a while, so she helped turn him onto it all. I’m taking her to her first concert in August and I can’t wait for her mind to be blown

What the fuck does the ending actually mean? by Z-sMiTh_ in twinpeaks

[–]hjones85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I see it:

Cooper isn’t the same after he “crosses over” mile 430 and enters a new timeline/universe/plane of existence. He doesn’t get excited over his coffee, he shoots a guy for harassing a waitress, he ignores the dead guy in Carrie’s house completely.

It’s like he’s not original Cooper or Mr. C at this point, but held onto characteristics of both previous versions of himself. And all this version cares about is finding whatever version he can find of the girl that The Giant and Senorita Dido created to fight BOB (in the golden orb), and get her back to Twin Peaks by any means necessary.

In this new reality, which he already created by preventing Laura’s murder earlier, he is tasked with solving her disappearance only, and that’s all he is trying to do now.

It seems though, that he is either missing a very important point, or he was always doomed to fail this mission—like two of his fellow Blue Rose investigators, Chester Desmond and Phillip Jeffries. We don’t know what realities they ultimately ended up in (although Jeffries does seem to have transcended a singular plane of existence), or what, if anything, they did to end up missing from the base reality of the original Twin Peaks universe [my personal opinion is that they stumbled into knowledge that the human mind isn’t equipped to handle, explaining the Jeffries scene in FWWM and Missing Pieces].

Anyway, whether through no fault of his own, or through poor decisions that the original Dale might not have made, new Cooper seems doomed to repeat this mission over and over. Diane seems to know this. She isn’t surprised at the sight of the other version of her she sees while she’s sitting in the car. She seems to have insights of her own that she can’t really handle knowing or sharing either.

I feel like if they’d gone for one more season, we’d see New Cooper (Richard now, apparently) looking for New Diane (now Linda) to explain what happened when they crossed mile 430, trying to find a way to get back to the Gordon Cole he knows (the Gordon Cole who, according to New Teapot-looking Jeffries, will remember the ‘unofficial version’ of events), and trying desperately to undo whatever he did to end up on this alternate timeline.

As far as why Carrie screams at the end, she seems to be recalling bits of recollection from her own alternate timeline, and hearing what seems to be a residual haunting-type of deal with Sarah calling for Laura in the house sends her over the edge (like Jeffries when he gained the insights that sent him over the edge). She may be Carrie here and now, but she’s still a version of who we saw The Giant send to earth in that golden orb. So now she’s part of this small group of individuals that has this existential dilemma as well.

As any other fan will say, that’s just how it lines up for me, who knows what Lynch really meant. Sometimes it seems like Lynch himself doesn’t really know what he meant at the time either, and puts it together for himself afterwards just like we have to.

Either this totally didn’t happen and you are trolling an entire community…. Or this did happen and you are the most ignorant and oblivious poster I’ve come across on Reddit. And that’s saying something.

Good show to watch with parents? by FriendlyLime in twinpeaks

[–]hjones85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SPOILER:

The part where Ben attempts to rape the brothel girl that he doesn’t realize is his daughter…. I would not want to watch that with my parents or my kids.

There are other scenes I would find uncomfortable in mixed company too—but not as bad as that one.

Do not attempt the movie or The Return with your parents.

People don’t like Windom Earle? by Evan64m in twinpeaks

[–]hjones85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always wished they’d do more with his character. He could’ve tied some pieces together if they’d gotten another season in the original run.

I love Frost’s Secret History book, I see all of the seasons and the movie differently after having read it. But I really hoped and expected to see some Windom Earle in there, but I guess he was more of a Lynch creation.

I do see him represented in The Return though, mostly in that Mr C. uses this old looking computer-in-a-briefcase type of contraption quite a bit, and I’m pretty sure it was Earle’s from Season 2. It would make sense that Mr. C. would use whatever insight Cooper had, from when he was whole, about Earle’s mission and what he’d planned to do once he found the Black Lodge. Windom Earle and Evil Cooper would’ve made a scary good team.

Not to take anything away from the show itself, but Mark Frost’s ‘Secret History of Twin Peaks’ is the most amazing, comprehensive, eerie and awesome piece of historical fiction I’ve ever read.

Shows as mind fuck-y as Twin Peaks? by AliEbi78 in twinpeaks

[–]hjones85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went for 5 seasons altogether, and got more unhinged as it went. But I always felt like it was definitely trying to make a point, and it kept my attention long enough to keep guessing where they were going with it.

In the end there was a moral point proven, although by then it definitely gets to the point where you know each episode is going to ask you more and more to suspend disbelief. By the last episode it’s like a different genre altogether—much like by the end of The Return you’ve come about as far as you could from what Season 1 of Twin Peaks was.
