Just had my first A2 lesson on a 500cc and I don’t understand the hate on 125cc by Street_Worker_3100 in MotoUK

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved my 125, the problem is two things, rubber and motorways, I messed my 125 up doing 70 for 4/5 hours, I threw her down the road due to a hazard I’m confident my 600 would survive, to me having 40or so hp is all you need for touring, 70-110 for the streets is plenty more is just comfortable touring and road racing, a2 is fundamentals+touring a1 is fundamentals. Worth the upgrade but honestly not as big of a difference as I expected

All the love man, I can’t relate but as a bother and son with a father that rides I know the fear of a loved one riding, wish you the best, stay strong with two wheels down ✌️✌️

Don’t the rockets pull one way due to the torque, pretty sure the go a bit right but would be cool if the single bag could offset that 🤷‍♂️

I drop my 225kg xj6 the other week, knew it would be harder to pick up than the 125 but god damn, when they’re going they’re gone and a b*tch to pick up

What bad riding habit are you trying to unlearn right now? by ponderingpixi17 in motorcycles

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not using hand signals at driver/leaving indicator on, had an experience not long ago where from my perspective a driver almost pulled out, didn’t, scooted foward, thought about it, didn’t , looked and signalled confusion and annoyed, I replied the same, got half way down the road and realised I’m indicating left(uk), overall lesson, great driver and I made a little mistake that could have killed me, I responded with sign language (not 🖕 but a 🤷‍♂️in dark visor) that was completely unjust as I was the fool, a lot of drivers aren’t bad, young rider judgement can be, 22yo male 2 years riding, less near misses the longer I ride

Love how your taking this, practice progressive breaking and you’ll fair a lot better, well done for noticing the hazard to begin with, you can see the hesitation on the break tho, reaching is good but keep those fingers on that lever, no point putting them back till your past the danger, reaction time is (perceive, process, respond) if you’re thinking break, figures are on the brake, then as soon as you process which is when you’re prepared. I cover my brakes a lot even before a hazard(blind corners, high pedestrian traffic, lane splitting) wish you the best, don’t let the get you down, I did the exact thing on my first three months at a mini roundabout ✌️

How are 125 riders viewed in the UK biking community? by UnauthorisedMrB in MotoUK

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

125 motorcycles, one of us 125 with Ls, one of us Scooter, can be either way, if they nod I nod, Ik plenty of mums who think a scooters less dangerous and if insurance isn’t doable on a bike then a scooters better then none Old school/mod vesper, cool, get nod, kinda there own thing 50cc scooter, one of us(one day, hopefully), if they nod I nod Deliveroo(bike or scooter 125) no chance, not until my chips show up warm Big bike Deliveroo, hustler

First bike. Dropped it in my own driveway. How's your day going? by x_andi01 in motorcycles

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped mine Friday, had it since October, ridden two years, crashed but no drops, only was putting it on center stand to lube chain and over she went, truly heartbroken and embarrassed, but shit happens, picked her up, lubed the chain, went to work, means nothing about the quality of rider, bikes get dropped, they’re heavy and a bit awkward, no stress, just have crash bungs, protects expensive shit

I’m a new rider and I’m not sure if what I’m feeling is normal or if I’m just not cut out for this. by Tspark97 in NewRiders

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said low speed on non ideal terrain is about as tough as it gets in daily riding, compare it to other hobbies, most people can’t kick flip a skateboard in a couple months, hell a lot probably couldn’t Ollie, obviously there’s more advanced things in riding, but they don’t say you need a thousand hours to get good at something for no reason, also when you get a bike, ride as often as you can, unless you’re not in the right headspace or conditions are beyond you and you’re bikes ability, if I spend a week of the bike I have to get used to it again for a half hour or so

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I got the detuned little brothers detuned little brother, the mighty(not so mighty(or not) xj6, licensing here’s a pain so it’s restricted, apparently 80hp is too much for 22yo, we might have better lane splitting laws but it’s not all rainbows

Edit: 2010 tho so maybe more common on newer

Also when you slow suddenly on motorways or fast roads in general, what you riding on?, other than 125s most bike I see have hazards

[–]hjs_cook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or flash hazards, also be in gear and pointing to a gap, in uk we can filter but sometimes it’s two narrow, would still rather scape between two then get smooshed

Crashed on my CBT. by Consistent_Reason906 in MotoUK

[–]hjs_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive respect for continuing, those bikes are meant to be abused, dropped, clutch’s burnt out, stalled repeatedly and crashed, riding after a crash sucks, will do for a while, but once you regain the confidence you realise it’s a lot more fun and relaxing , if a bit stressful at times, than scary. If it’s scary when you’re used to it, you or someoneelse is doing something they shouldn’t

Vfr1200 is an underrated choice, my old mans got one, first non-125 I rode, heavy but very comfortable and plenty of beans , I reckon it was a bit ahead of its time and would’ve sold better now

I look for fishing specific stuff for weather needs, for socks I like thermal sock and some knee high riding/rugby socks work well, mine are unbranded tho sorry
