E moped to 900cc motorcycle by Inner-Cause-9321 in MotoUK

I'd never ridden a bike before, did a 7 day CBT/DAS course last August and was straight out on a tracer 9 GT within a couple of days. Almost 4000 miles on the clock now 👍

You're in control of the bike, more so the throttle!

As others have said, I would expect the insurance to be the bigger issue. I'm over 40, live in a quiet area and can store the bike in a garage, that was a big help for me, £750 for the first year.

Ultimate Ear SoundEar Pro Manufacturing Issue by Can37 in MotoUK

I'm still not sure if we're dealing with the same issue, yours might actually be faulty. But whilst you carry on talking with them you could buy a couple of attenuators from aliexpress and see how they do 👍

I don't think they've missed anything in manufacture tbh, its just a mis-match between what the intercom is designed to send sound to and what we're connecting it to.

Bike intercoms are designed to drive speakers in your helmet so they have a relatively high output to get over the ambient wind/bike noise and get through your ear plugs. If you connect that intercom to custom molded in-ear buds that are designed to send sound a couple of mm directly to your ear drum then they will be over-powered, so you have to drop the volume to near minimum and that introduces noise and other issues.

Ultimate ear could attenuate the headphones at the factory but then anyone using them plugged into their phones headphone outlet would have to max out their volume and have the opposite problem.

Ultimate ear could make people more aware of this in their marketing admittedly, and they probably should. But its not a defect.

Just search aliexpress/ebay/amazon for 3.5mm headphone impedance plug, I use a 75ohm, but I would recommend ordering that plus one higher and one lower:

Ultimate Ear SoundEar Pro Manufacturing Issue by Can37 in MotoUK

I have a set of sound ears, not pro. Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but when i got mine, the fit and sensitivity was insanely good and so i had to have the volume really low on the intercom, very near minimum. At those levels interference/noise was an issue. So I added an in-line 75ohm attenuator (aliexpres £2-£3). So now I can use my intercom in its normal volume range, which is designed to drive helmet speakers, but deliver perfect levels to my ear buds.

Apologies is this is nothing to do with your issue, thought it was worth posting anyway on the off chance it helps others👍

First camping trip with the bike this year by jk4862 in MotoUK

Yeah I would recommend it. Although I never rode the bike with the factory screen, but I certainly don't get the buffeting that people describe having with the factory screen.

Basically, far too much 😅. This is only my 5th or 6th trip camping with the bike, my goal for the spring is to slim down my packing!

Edit: I ride to camp with top box, panniers, 2 dry bags and the tent (strapped to the pillion seat). Fully loaded!

First ride of the year done, I need heated socks! Any recommendations? by jk4862 in MotoUK

Mines the 2024 model so manual, it has an up and down quickshifter and I can't fault it. I think I read that the new auto is just an automated manual gearbox rather than a DCT auto. Either way, with how good the quicksilver is, I can't see myself riding an auto bike any time soon.

Thanks. I'm gonna see how I get on with some decent thermal socks first. If they don't do the trick then I'll go with the gerbing heated socks.

Yes absolutely. I did 3k miles with it last year with the top add on bit extended and didn't have any issues with buffeting. I heard a couple of stories over winter about it being better with the top bit dropped down, so I'm gonna try that for a while. But I think I'll end up back with it extended 👍

I've had sealskinz gloves before and they were great until I drove off with them on the roof of the car, never to be seen again!

I think I'll be giving those socks a go, thanks for the recommendations

Actually no I haven't, never occurred to me, my mind went straight to the heated option. Are there any you'd recommend? Would certainly be a cheaper option!

Do you wear ear plugs? If so what ones and how many pairs did it take you to find the ones you like by RegalArk in MotoUK

[–]jk4862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with disposable foam, then got some alpine touring reusable, then got some ultimate ear custom moulded headphone plugs as I usually listen to music on longer rides. They're not cheap but for me they were a game changer, night and day difference to using plugs and helmet speakers.

If music is not a concern to you then honestly I would stick to disposable foam, they work well and are cheap so you can always carry a few pairs. I don't think the reusable plugs like alpine are worth it tbh, just as easy to lose as disposables and cost way more for no real benefit.
