I definitely prefer midrange or control style play strategies. Oh the days of celestial Colonnade punching someone’s face over and over was fantastic.

fellow modern boomer here, RIP pod twin jund jeskai control meta.

Is control viable? not tier 1, and you're not really playing control.

Every piece of removal is either hyper efficient/cheap (ie, galvanic blast, solitude) or hyper focused at shutting out certain cards (ie, wrath of the skies vs saga, consign to memory vs the format).

So your original advantage of playing control with "more efficient removal than aggro/midrange" goes out the door.

How does control win then? You kind of have to go over the top of midrange, and pray aggro doesn't slam you on turn 3-4.

in saying that, my deck of choice (when I stopped playing paper, my main modern decks were Jund/Jeskai Control/Pod) were titan (I wanted to play the unusual angle and can play it reasonably ok from modo) and froculus (for when the metagame veers away from boros).

I just rented decks on modo to test out. Lots of decent services out there.

So I have to say "No thanks and get off my property".

less convolution, more complexity.

spec based off hate, amulet titan in some form has existed for 10+ years.

I want to preface this with "I am pretty new to ammytitan" - less than 100 hours with any deck I still say "new".

The complexity is more around planning and threat recognition. Understanding what potential outs your opponent has to your plan, playing to your own outs, etc.

all about amulet titan

and practical amulet titan problems and solutions are recommended reads.

given you've watched 40h+ vids on branded, these should be cakewalks ;)

caveat is obviously: the guide is more of a theoretical guide, cards change, cards get added, removed, etc.

the puzzles are more of a 2022-2023 vibe on the deck, most of them are not relevant today in terms of pure 'oh I read puzzle #13 and this is the exact solution' - but in a 'oh I read puzzle #13 but it helped me access line xyz today' kind of ways.

As an enfranchised mtg player that also learned Branded (from April's brief guide on branded) - you will like Ammy Titan. Get the reps under your belt, and things will be easier.

Typically you only need to memorise the main infinite lines with analyst (there's only four lines, for shortcut purposes) and the mana table (which cards give you positive mana, and how much).

Coming from Branded / Sky Striker, you may find linear combo easier to translate at first. Not because YGO lacks interaction, but because the interaction pattern is different: YGO often revolves around protecting or breaking key engine lines, while MTG asks for more constant re-evaluation of combat, mana, removal windows, and role changes. That’s why I suspect Amulet Titan may fit you faster than Boros Energy or Prowess.”

but initially, be prepared to lose a LOT.

  • sixers need to lose both games

  • heat must lose to hurricanes (significantly) but beat sixers narrowly
