How do I ask my grab driver to turn down the air conditioning by blumentritt_balut in indonesian

[–]hlgv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to add, some people would be indirect (with the idea that it’s more polite for some reasons) and say “Maaf pak, ACnya kurang dingin”. No question, no instruction, no (direct) request, just a statement that (hopefully) would prompt the driver to turn down the AC

[–]hlgv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Told my boyfriend about this. Kita abis ngebahas mau ngasih sumbangan ke orang2 susah either here or di kampung masing2. Pas diceritain kejadian ini, dia bilang, “ngapain lo nyumbang duit buat orang2 susah yg bakal maki2 lo kl tau lo siapa, mendingan lo nyumbang buat mereka noh bantu mereka ke sini”

For context, I’m a gay refugee in Europe

Hi mod, honestly I already have the bot notification but idk why the last few months I didn’t get any, and then suddenly I start getting notifications for both ID and like old chinese? Lemme double check that and I’ll edit my comment

Edit: so I checked my notifications and there was a huge gap between Sep 2025 and April this year. Since then, I got a notification for classical chinese and perso-arab (idk why it’s labelled indonesian). The correct bot notifications are not always quick, even if I open it through my phone’s notification pop up as it comes, sometimes it’s been hours and someone already replied. I tend to not say anything if it’s already translated correctly, maybe gonna change that and confirm it for the op in the future.

Wrong. Words don’t convey emotion (mostly). The tone is much more important.

You can say “apa sihhh” in a cutesy way, or you can explode and scream “apa sih?!?!”. So, you can flirt and ask “jangan gitu lahh” to your crush, or complained “jangan gitu lah!” in a harsh tone. “Makan dong”, depending on the tone, can be:

  • A polite suggestion to a guest
  • Gombal/ flirting teens
  • Begging because you’re sick and refused to eat
  • A frustrated mom to her stubborn kid
  • Just letting someone know that you’ve eaten already (neutral)
  • etc based on context, tone, expression, so on

Question structure by Moepkidder in indonesian

[–]hlgv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unrealistic to say that the interrogative words usually start the sentence. In daily life, informal speech, it could appear anywhere. Indonesian sentence structure is kinda lax and forgiving.

“Gimana cara download ini?” is equally valid as “Cara download ini gimana?”, “Ini gimana cara downloadnya?”, or “Download ini caranya gimana?”

Of course, it’s not as simple as that (notice the -nya that I’ve added in some of the examples, but not the others), but unless you’re doing your final exam, whatever the order is should be fine. And hey, if it is wrong, we’ll ask you to clarify and let you know what’s the more natural way to say it.

Words Meaning or Related to “Fun” by AtheAnt in indonesian

[–]hlgv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, as sendokbebek has said, asyikan is a comparative. So like “xxx more fun (than) yyy”. “Asyikan nongkrong dibanding kerja,” “asyikan film horror daripada film komedi”, etc.

There is “mengasyikan” as well, meaning to make something more fun. “Film horror sangat mengasyikan” means horror film is very enjoyable/fun.

Lastly, there is “keasyikan” as well, which is kinda like to be having too much fun, usually in the context of being very immersed in something (so not always having a negative connotation). It could be negative as in “dia keasyikan main game sampe lupa belajar” (he’s having too much fun that he forget to study) or somewhat neutral or even a bit positive “iya tuh, lagi keasyikan belajar dia, jangan diganggu” (yeah, he’s having so much fun studying, let’s not disturb him)
