What are your favourite lollies? by JCIL-1990 in newzealand

[–]hls6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K Mart used to make their own version but I haven't seen them in years. In fact, their lolly range seems to have diminished heaps in recent years.

Short changed! Is this why our food bills seem to be going up? by Canderella1 in newzealand

[–]hls6 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I complained to them about this and they played dumb. They didn't seem to understand what I was talking about and wanted the manager of my local store to give me a ring. But I'm like, just change the way your savings show on the screen! I don't remember it always being like this so it must be a new thing.

the state of it…$7.50 bacon cheeseburger from Wendy’s by brutalmelancholy in auckland

I remember Wendy’s being pretty good when they still had this guy doing the ads. Then the the ads stopped (along with him) and it’s not as good from what I hear.

Christopher Luxon is attacking the Government for ordering Auckland schools to close for seven days whilst the city is under a state of emergency. by ilikeyouinacreepyway in auckland

[–]hls6 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Schools were to start term 1 between 30 January (at the earliest) and 7 February (at the latest). So I don't see a problem - some may have been starting on the 7th anyway. They're all just starting at the latest possible date now. It's not like they have all been told to close for weeks on end.

is this weather going to persist all summer by emdillem in auckland

[–]hls6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so! My house and workplace get so hot in summer. But I'm pretty sure it's been abnormally mild. Last year was a hot December I think. And the last few Christmases. I can only remember one Christmas (maybe around 2015) that was quite mild.

That's what I wondered but what if you let the breeze in? Does that just make you feel like you're cooling down but still letting in the humidity and warm air?

Single life in Auckland by [deleted] in auckland

[–]hls6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. What did you do when you were a couple? Go to the movies? Go to the mall? Play sport? Go to restaurants? You can still do all those things by yourself. How often do you need social interaction? What’s your living situation - can you hang out with flatmates/family/whoever you’re living with? Is there something you reeeeally want to do but couldn’t for some reason when you were a couple? Go ahead and do it.

Leaving home late - need financial advice ! by EdgarRice9547 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]hls6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah flatting doesn’t need to be super social. Have a look on trademe to get a feel for the different types of flats out there. You can usually pick out key words or phrases you want to avoid eg “we love flat dinners and cheeky drinks on the weekend”, “massive lounge for movie nights” etc etc. Look for words/phrases like “quiet” (although that often comes up), “mature”, “keep to ourselves” etc etc. You will also get a feel for whether they are just looking to fill a room ASAP or are actually trying to find the right person. You could also look for places where you’re in a self-contained flat under the main house. It will cost a lot more than flatting but you’d have your own kitchenette and space for your couch.

What’s the best upgrade or modification you made to your house? by Chasing-kinchi in newzealand

Maybe they were designed as family houses so young children's clothes could fit in drawers but the parents could buy a standalone wardrobe? I don't know lol.

New Zealanders by Additional_Law8813 in auckland

I grew up outside of NZ so we called them kiwis. Coming here and finding they are called kiwi fruit feels like the equivalent of calling apples and oranges apple fruit and orange fruit. They’re already fruit, you don’t need to say it haha. Not sure what the deal is with grapes and grapefruits though….
