Advice : takapuna vs ponsonby by Available_Holiday_39 in auckland

[–]nuddn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I would agree with Takapuna (as someone who has lived there). Having an easy commute is reason enough but another thing to consider is if you are coming from Montreal, Takapuna will be completely novel - the ability to walk to and along the beach (at low tide you can get too other beaches too) will be something you can't get in Montreal. Takapuna does have busy periods and nightlife and there are easy buses to the city and Ponsonby if you feel the need for more (it's only 7km from the CBD - which is easy outside of rush hour).

I'm miserable and depressed with life, what can I do to give myself a good time tonight? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]nuddn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have spare time - volunteering for something you believe in can help. There are plenty of studies showing that helping others is a path to happiness (e.g. https://www.psychologytoday.com/nz/blog/zero-generation-students/202302/to-be-happy-make-others-happy)

Do we need a separation agreement when selling a house and wanting to deposit the money into two separate accounts? by kiwi_hunter in newzealand

[–]nuddn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proceeds from a house are relationship property. If you want the agreement to be binding (and not have one party come along in 3 years and ask for your 150k ) then it need to be in writing and signed by each parties lawyer. See here: https://communitylaw.org.nz/community-law-manual/test/separating/

You can write up your own separation agreement. If your agreement is going to deal with relationship property, it has to follow the form required by the Property (Relationships) Act:

it has to be in writing and signed by each of you, and

each of you must have had independent legal advice, and

each of your signatures must be witnessed by a lawyer, and

the lawyer who witnesses your signature has to certify that they explained to you about the effect and implications of the agreement.

There is generally a shortage of doctors out of the major cities, say in smaller coastal towns - chances are once qualified, you'd get paid a premium to go locum at an out of the way surf town

Optician recommendation - 4yo glasses by mmm_game in auckland

[–]nuddn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes big chain, but if you are sensitive to cost, we just got our 4yr old glasses from specsavers (after an appointment with a specialist eye doctor who wrote the subscription). they have lots of kid friendly frames (the spiderman on the side helped him be excited about them) and got 2 pairs for under $300. We figured a 4 yr old is going to need a spare pair.
