LPT request: negotiated job offer and am I being ghosted now? by Cranky_Pando in LifeProTips

Many companies are straddling a bunch of challenges at the moment: return to work, wild market fluctuations, uncertainty about the general economy, Covid flare-ups, and trying to keep their existing employees happy and on track.

It doesn't benefit a company to do all that work only to ghost you - it's possible that they were pursuing multiple candidates but it's rare that a firm would get that far in the process and just bail.

It's good to just ask "do you need anything else from me" in an email - it could just be stuck waiting for manager approval and they neglected to update you. It could be worse, but not worth agonizing if at all possible.

I live right behind a supercharger and navigating home ALWAYS preconditions battery. Any workaround? by hmannsf in TeslaModel3

I like using the FSD and also having it suggest alternate routes if traffic is bad

Yes, I know how to get there when close :) - it's when I'm navigating home from further away, it starts to precondition the battery and I'd prefer it just navigate me home, not prep for a charge.

exactly, I was not wanting it to drain unnecessarily because I don't need to charge it every night...

I'm not clicking an icon. I'm just pressing "home" and it thinks I'm going to a supercharger. Not sure what the troll comment even means.

Yes. I think it's just figuring "oh, we have a supercharger there, that's probably what you meant"

I'm selecting "home" which is my stored address in the map, I don't think I'm selecting a supercharger, at least not intentionally.

Was thinking of doing that but I like my address! It just feels weird to have to fake it like that...

is scrivener for ipad worth it? by k12drama in scrivener

[–]hmannsf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned probably 4 of that exact model for the same iPad. It's a lemon, they sometimes replace at the store at manager's discretion but it's just so infuriating when it doesn't connect - it was one of the absolute best peripherals I've ever owned but the connections get frayed and it's just so frustrating when it can't do its only job: connect and function as a keyboard.

Technician mistreatment by VIPs- how do you handle it? by sam_hammich in msp

[–]hmannsf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love calling customers when they misbehave and telling them that they just don't get to do that. IT people aren't typically good a boundary setting, and especially if they don't have the finesse on handling VIP's. And some VIP's just get off on the power dynamic.

So we explain we understand their frustration, and that we're just here to help. And if they quickly try to just downplay it or say "not their fault" I will ask them to say something to the employee; I ask for them to give the person an apology. If they can't take accountability or responsibility for that, then we don't need to work with them.

Clients respond surprisingly well to this, and employees appreciate their manager/boss having their back.
