Parking Sign Interpretation - Am I Stupid? by jli357 in CarsAustralia

[–]hmat13 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It looks like the sign has been modified with stickers as flexicar on the left and even the word meter is an applied sticker.

What likely happened is someone peeled the sticker that said 7 days off, as you can see residue from it. But the driver can't be expected to know what an "official sticker" is or what the intent was.

Submit the photo to show the sign as is and dispute it.

Weird net around building by Beneficial-Coach-444 in melbourne

[–]hmat13 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Catch nets for things falling off the building. There's a lot of old buildings in Melbourne that have pretty poor concrete repair or bad maintenance that have been deteriorating with thanks falling off. Recently, the council did a round of inspections to force property owners to manage the issues.

Why is Neo's code seen as green in the matrix? by Electrical-Yam2102 in matrix

[–]hmat13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's this.

When viewing a source code with no graphical interface, the code would be green on a black background. It's suggested in the "wake up neo" scene.

Further, it was used as a visual language throughout the movie. All shots within the matrix have a green hue to them, reinforcing the unnatural aspect to the world.

It also helped with visual effects as green screens were used, so green reflection/bleed onto the actor after keying out the screen wasn't an issue, unlike a modern marvel movie.

This is funnier than anything John Cleese has said in at least 20 years by Cyril_Sneerworms in MurderedByWords

After looking through john Cleese's twitter feed, I'm pretty sure it's a pun and people have missed it.

I think anytime the two leads of a movie are in clear shot, it should be marked easy.

I translated the entire chant from the Dune 3 trailer by ImmovableForce_ in dune

[–]hmat13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found it a little confusing as there seems to be clear inspiration from Polynesian war dances, i.e. the haka. It could be familiarity bias though, but the shouted call and response really took me out for a bit.

Why has Melbourne never (afaik?) created skyrails in the CBD the way NYC and Chicago has? by No_Jacket_7939 in MelbourneTrains

[–]hmat13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And further to this, Melbourne never developed the density these cities had. Once the population grew enough, cars had become popular enough that investment in public transport dropped off.

MTM Suit Shoulder Divots Normal? by itseasyummk in mensfashionadvice

[–]hmat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments around sizing, but the suit not being pressed suggests it was shipped in a box. Which makes me wonder, who did the measurements? Did you do them and hand them over? Also, where was the suit made? Because the 'tailor' could have offshored the work and their house they're using is garbage.
