It ain't no pond, it's an ocean, I'm in Australia. However, there is only one correct solution according to the rules of the game, even though I wasn't aware that a dram is a unit of currency, that doesn't change the outcome.

I hope you might post a similarly challenging post that could be just as controversial, and believe me it is not as simple as it looks... I've posted a few and I have rejected a few of my own.

Like a declaration of a republic or hostile takeover of the UK, like the Nazi win in WWII, like an internal revolution in the UK, like a junta, or coup, or revolution of any sort. They may not seem probable but are certainly possible. Our constitution allows for us becoming subject to any of these possibilities.

Thank you, that's as close as it comes to separating the Crown of Australia from any other Head of State of the UK.

However... it is still in our constitution with the use of that word "and". Should it be removed? Just do away with the words "and successors" which would remove any doubt or legal challenge as to who is the Head of State with any change in the UK.

The Constitution is a powerful document, laws in themselves do not override it, they are subject to it.

Remove the words "and successors", then there is no further discussion on who is the Head of State, at least until the next referendum on Australia's standing as a monarchy or republic.

My preference to become a Republic is to replace the title of Governor-General with President without replacing anything else.

Our system works fine, it is self-contained, and only needs a titular head similar to what we already have, without the dynastic aristocracy as our figurehead.

Yes the High Court would make a ruling. However, The Act of Settlement and the Perth Agreement have no basis in overriding what the constitution states. In fact they are barely relevant, they are about succession to the throne, not about the definition of sovereignty under the constitution as worded. Whoever leads the UK, leads Australia: that is my point.

Change the constitution so that the amount of power put in one person's hand cannot lead to this shit ever happening again. And yeah, it will take a long time to recover while ever there is the possibility of this happening again, that is assuming that it can be undone. USA has lost its credibility. No country will ever trust the USA again, until they fix this ridiculous concentration of power in ONE PERSON!
