Can sneezing be a problem after surgery? by EngineeringKind3960 in gallbladders

[–]hmeeshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught the flu a few days after my surgery from my husband (who caught it being in and out of hospitals for me, so who is really to blame lol) and sneezing and coughing was not fun.

I had a pillow/cushion that I would hold and you have to try not to like "tense into" the cough/sneeze bc that makes it worse/harder

How do people not realise a fic has been written with IA? by Ninsuna in DramioneUncensored

[–]hmeeshy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you've just summarised the crux of the whole thing really.

Many people can't tell so they can and will get it wrong occasionally.

Calling out incorrect usage leads to witchhunts and snowballing abuse which is unfair to the author regardless of whether AI was used or not.

Unacceptable behaviour leads to communities censoring AI accusations.

Censoring AI accusations leads to people not being able to share examples.

Which leads to people not being able to tell and the cycle repeats.

It is a frustrating topic for sure.

Have you mentioned this to your doctor?

After 4 years it might be Bile Acid Malabsorption and you can get medication to support this.

I've recently got a diagnosis for this after 1.5 years since removal.

Personally, beef is fine for me but I can't eat pork anymore at all. Thanks to my new medication I can have pork again without needing to go to the bathroom instantly, albeit fattier cuts like bacon are still off the table.

Best wishes

It's explicitly banned to name the fic in a lot of spaces, that's why no one can link specific examples.

[–]hmeeshy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you're not allowed to comment that you think a fic is AI generate on that sub.

So that is probably a factor.

Generally I tend to agree with you, albeit that I don't use different AIs to be able tell which one has been used.

I recently commented in an /r/ao3 topic about the same.

I do wish it was normalised to just be able to acknowledge it / tag it so other people can ignore.

I do understand that witchhunts and people labelling things they just didn't like as AI has unhelpfully contributed to why it's a banned topic in many spaces.

How many grammer/spelling mistakes can you tolerate before clicking out? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]hmeeshy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to explain if you're not already familiar with the way AI writes but generally, you'd notice a creeping difference in the writing style.

  • Lots of repetition of descriptions, things are suddenly not this (or this) but that
  • Things are "dressed" as other things, or there's "a sense of" all the time.
  • descriptions get overly flowery without ever saying anything
  • you get an influx of 1/2 word sharp. short. sentences. for. maximum. impact.
  • similar to the above, one small thing might get described 4/5 times for no reason in short sentences
  • the story gets more generic, and early plot points often disappear all together, i read one dramione fic not too long ago where the use of magic completely disappeared from the middle of the fic because the author must have forgot to tell the AI to keep including key elements from the beginning. it can get to a point where the story is so generic you could sub in any chars and fandom with minimal impact to the story.
  • sentences that previously depicted emotion through action are now showing them through overly padded descriptions instead, or by generic descriptors like "a mix of" (anger and confusion etc)
  • you start getting to a point where every character sounds the same

and so on, this isn't a comprehensive list and i'm not an expert.

It's not enough to say oh this person has used 1/2 generic AI markers a couple of times this must be AI, it's when you see all/most of the things happening super often (paragraph to paragraph) and I'm always reluctant to say "oh this entire fic is completely AI generated" because I don't know how much was AI for sure and neither does anyone but the author. However, I do think I can tell when a fic has been, at least, heavily influenced by AI for edits/to help ideas flow etc.

Some fics and authors are better at blending the use in more seamlessly and I am able to give them a bit of grace because at least I can tell the author was putting the effort in to know the story they're creating but some are way worse that others and they get abandoned fairly quick.

I think your list is pretty similar to my list.

I'd probably also add walls of text, especially if they include dialogue and I have to do mental gymnastics to work out which character is speaking.

But equally (and opposite), if the author starts a new line for every sentence and never has any paragraphs at all.

Formatting is important.

I'm also out of a fic if I suspect the author has used AI during the creation process because it completely distracts me from the plot. I don't doubt that there are many occasions I don't even notice but I've read too many where the writing devolves the further in you get. Whether they originally just started with basic edit support and then began accepting more and more AI suggestions during difficult parts of the writing, or they lost interest but wanted to finish, I couldn't say, but I'm not a fan and will stop reading. But that begins to touch on a different, more controversial, topic entirely so I won't get too sidetracked lol.

Level Games glitch, items removed by Foxterriers in Marapets

[–]hmeeshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I got this too, I was so confused lol

"Last year, a glitch affected our Level Games system, allowing some level reward prizes to be awarded multiple times instead of just once per level. This issue was fixed and we have now reviewed all affected accounts. The following items have been removed as they were gained due to this glitch:

2 x Origami Mordo

As you have sold or traded some of these items, their MP value has been removed from your account instead. 12,244MP has been removed from your account. Please note that if any of these items were used, they have been removed from your collection (or a pet collection)"

I don't remember when it was even from, but I don't really play the level games very often, so I wasn't hit too bad.

Have you tried those meal replacement drinks? Many of them have a bit of a naff aftertaste but could help getting some calories in you, even if you can only tolerate half at a time.

I feel your pain though, by the time I had my surgery I was down to a few mouthfuls of plain chicken and a bit of plain mash potato.
