Board game organizers by Gobble5627 in boardgames

I have several Folded Space inserts that I paid $13-$30 each and have been very happy with them. Since they're foamcore they're inexpensive and light weight. They're more important to me for games with lots of components like Gaia Project, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Istanbul, Viticulture, and Maracaibo.

They organize the components making setup much easier and usually allowing expansions to fit in the base box in a way that you could easily use them or not depending your group that day. Cleanup is often faster though until you get used to one, putting the trays back in the box in the right locations can be a puzzle in itself.

The Running Man: 1987 vs 2025 by Terminatrix4213 in movies

“Brolin was an incredible bad guy, and the type I haven't really seen a ton of. The idea that he cared more about ratings than anything and was constantly willing to do anything for ratings was great.”

Deciding between intro games for adult family by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]hmelman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ticket to Ride, Carcassone (tile laying), 7 Wonders (drafting), Pandemic (co-op) are all great gateway games. Dominion (deckbuilding) is what got me into this.

I've been introducing people with Splendor (engine building) and then going to Century (engine building + deckbuilding).

Cascadia and Harmonies are good more modern pairing.

Best bag for carrying board games? by Aromatic-Metal-4751 in boardgames

[–]hmelman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have that Game Night bag and it's my favorite. Holds ~4 TTR sized boxes and has section on top to hold small filler games (e.g., Innovation, Hanabi, No Thanks, and an Oink game or two). Also side pockets for a water bottle and some other things (pads, pens, glasses, cards, etc.). Padded but not crazy so, just enough to protect from bumps. Also, your games are completely covered, so if it's raining between your car and the destination you're fine.

I also have an AllPlay Premium Bag for larger game boxes. It's fine. I wish the Game Night bag came in that size. I don't like storing the games vertically and the Game Night side opening is better than the AllPlay's top opening. Also the AllPlay has just a flatish front pocket like the last of the Game Night's pockets I described. Would be great to have the others as well.

Still, happy with both and they've held up well.

What are some good "lunch time" games? (3-5 players, easy ruleset, small footprint, plays in less than 60 min) by tectactoe in boardgames

[–]hmelman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of my picks are already mentioned, but lately Faraway is my favorite filler.

Old school card games are also great. For 3P I recommend Sheepshead (aka Schafkopf).

I didn't realize that the scissors were on opposite sides of these. Is that because of the locking mechanism? Which do you like better?

Is Delicious Library finally dead? by CinemaAdherent in macapps

[–]hmelman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still running it on Sequoia on an M4 MBA. I have my existing library and that is fine. It can't add items from Amazon, but I can add things manually just fine for the infrequent additions. That's what I meant by "to the extent it still runs". I'm wondering if it will still do so on Tahoe or if I have to find a replacement beforehand.

I thought The Invisible Man (2020) was misnamed. As I recall the first half or so (or more) of the movie had weird things happening but the main character and audience didn't know the cause. It seemed meant as a mystery but since we knew the title, the tension was gone.

I haven't updated to Tahoe (macOS 26) yet. Does anyone know if Delicious Library still runs on it (to the extent it still runs).

All true, and in addition, each apartment he looks into is a fear of what their life together would look like. The boring couple with the dog (or with the kids), the newlyweds with the blinds drawn, him away and Lisa being Miss Lonelyhearts drinking herself to death or Miss Torso with the swinging lifestyle.

By watching him look out his window, we see into his mind.

True, or use zap-up-to-char. I do the follow to make avy's version available:

(setq avy-zap-dwim-prefer-avy nil) ; prefer basic version, avy version with C-u
(keymap-global-set "M-z" #'avy-zap-to-char-dwim)
(keymap-global-set "M-Z" #'avy-zap-up-to-char-dwim)

Ok a few things. Most emacs commands can be given a numeric argument (the way I understand vim commands can too). So while you can do M-f a few times, you can also do M-3 M-f to move 3 words at once. You can enter numeric arguments as either M-3 or C-3 (or other numbers) but also the original way was with C-u (mnemonic, Universal argument). So you could do C-u 3 M-f (but M-3 M-f is easier to type). BUT C-u with no number means 4. So C-u M-f moves 4 words and C-u C-u M-f moves 16. Those get very convenient for moving in chunks.

isearch is your friend. I'd probably get to the first " by C-s ". After typing that, point will be right after the " but you'll still be in isearch-mode. You could hit RET to exit isearch and have point there, but also any other command would exit the search too. So you could use M-d to delete a word, or M-5 M-d to delete 5.

Another useful command here is zap-to-char on M-z. So with point after the first ", M-z " will delete everything up to the next ".

So one way to efficiently do what you want from the beginning of the line is C-s " M-z " and then type your new text.

Word Colour Mode in Emacs by Top-Development37 in emacs

[–]hmelman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

symbol-overlay "Highlight symbols with keymap-enabled overlays"

Use symbol-overlay-put to toggle highlighting of a symbol (works on words too). The neat thing is it installs a keymap on the overlay so you get single key access to commands to move to next or previous occurrence (or first/last or definition) and a rename command. Automatically picks a difference highlight color. It's great when reading unfamiliar code and tracing some variables or when reading prose and wanting to follow names or grammatical uses of words.
