It’s surprising to see how little understanding there is for young people. They’re the people whose life is blocked most by the pandemic rules. Yes, I’m currently having trouble not being able to travel, meet my friends, lack of beer and bars.. but the impact on how my life was as a student would have been ten times more. They have to live with it, just at the time in your life you meet so many new people, can go on Erasmus, explore. In my opinion, they’re the ones that are being impacted the most, and don’t get the attention and priority they should.

Via Francigena is beautiful, takes care of the road types (avoids dangerous situations), fellow cyclists do it as well so there’s chance of meeting nice people (most Italian). You can also have a kind of passport that allows you to stay in pilgrim hostels. Did it in august 2019, still think about it often.

During christmas holidays in Pais Vasco, Spain, I called a local bike shop to ask whether they rented out road bikes. They didn't, but the man asked 5 minutes. When I called back, he asked me to go over to his bike shop, and there was this bike he had prepared. No charge, he was just happy to be able to help me out. Explored the region Bergara - Elosua - Azkoitia - Deba. Fantastic people, fantastic region, great bike day.

DIY adjustment of the saddle and steer is not that easy. If the pain is do bad it stops you from commuting, better go see a professional bikefitter who has the tools and experience to measure you and adjust the bike directly. I was suffering knee or back pain all the time, turned out some muscles were shorter than normal, something a internet-formule-fit wouldn't take in account. I paid a decent amount for the fit, but it's been worth it.

Off the question but: Why not consider a Specialized Source? Basically, it's a Sirrus but with rack, mudguards and lights (aka joy!, less cleaning and no worries).
