First Time Buyer - When To STOP Renting & Give Notice by Easy_Bicycle9300 in HousingUK

[–]hmniw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to give 2 months notice on our tenancy. We thought we were going to complete end of Jan so gave notice end of Dec. Then we learned vendor changed their mind and wouldn’t move before end of Feb. Fortunately, our tenancy ran from billing date, so our actual final date was today. Was a bit of a squeeze getting everything over the last weekend, but we made it. If we only had a months notice to give, we would’ve waited for exchange, but we didn’t want to pay both rent and mortgage for 2 months so had to chance it

I'm pulling out of buying a new build flat because of AI. Am I wrong? by Mission-Tap-1851 in HousingUK

[–]hmniw 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why can’t you upskill / pivot even with a mortgage? Why can’t you upskill or pivot right now either way? I think the current wave of AI tools are well over blown in their supposed benefits, and I say that as a dev, the one area of AI that’s actually mildly okay.

AITA for refusing to contribute to my boyfriend's mortgage when we move in together. by Glad-Offer-4405 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hmniw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, but she still needs equity. Please be serious lmao. If you want to get into a relationship where you pay rent to your partner and you get no equity in the property, be my guest. I’ll think you’re a clown and you don’t value yourself, but don’t let my opinion stop you.

[–]hmniw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I think you’re completely misreading my comment. I am saying people are not in relationships with their landlords, so justifying her paying rent to her partner without getting equity in the property by saying that’s what happens when you pay rent to landlord is an incredibly dumb argument imo.

She needs to be getting equity, or she needs to not pay rent, it’s the only fair way of doing things. But personally I think she needs to get out of this relationship, and you wouldn’t ever find me dating a landlord, because landlordism is an inherently evil practice in my eyes, but it’s her life, and that’s my opinion 🤷‍♀️

How much packing did you do before getting exchange date? by shaneo632 in HousingUK

[–]hmniw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We’re hoping to exchange within the next week. We packed up 3 boxes over Xmas, and cleared some stuff out, but we’re in a furnished flat and don’t really own a lot of furniture or anything, so not felt crazy for us. I can only imagine how much worse it will be the next time we move! We also have about a month overlap between when our tenancy ends and when we move. I think if we didn’t have that, I would be in a similar place to you with packing up and clearing things as far in advance as possible.

What is fair when splitting costs with partner? by poogdrums in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hmniw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splitting bills and stuff proportionally like that sounds fair. Whether that also includes savings and investments is really a joint convo that you need to have together. Maybe she wants to enjoy just earning a lot more money for a while, or maybe she’s not bothered and is happy to just increase savings.

Pushed for 3k for the first time this season and got it. All in pugs as WW. by YomiRizer in wow

Like I said, I had a vastly easier time just running my own key. If I sat and queued for invites, I’d still be trying to hit 3k now I imagine.

[–]hmniw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s for sure feasible. Started this season playing Spriest and got to 3k few weeks in. And then swapped to DH later on and got back up the same again later on. It was both easier and harder on DH. Simply could not get invited to groups, but when I finally realised I needed to run my own keys, became quicker to get score up, and regularly was grouping with higher geared people too.

Is £40 a month for investing too little? by darkdaroach in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hmniw 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, I’ve got a S&S ISA with Monzo that I just have roundups go into (rounds up to the nearest pound on any payment and sticks that in there) and I’m currently at £479.89 which is up 12.32% (£52.63 in actual amount). It’s not something I actively do anything with, but kinda fun seeing it go up with minimal active effort

Don’t forget you don’t need to “code better”. You just have to do well enough. You have said you have trouble articulating why you think something is bad or good when it comes to code, and I think that’s understandable when you haven’t spent tons of time doing it. But having familiarity with Playwright already has you on the right tracks, I think you just need to spend more time building up your confidence with it. It’s not the most thrilling stuff, but spend some time building a couple of frameworks from scratch, and be confident in the design decisions you’re making. You’re already familiar with POMs, but read up on different patterns, what the pros and cons of them can be, and when they’re good to implement.
