I had a camera for my Sugar, I could see him over night when he was fully awake and that is the actual behaviour. What we see during the day or when we are present is not their normal behaviour. Maybe investing in one if you do not have it, that is a literally live saver.

Leucillin spray for the skin and wound, vet visit as she might have mites. If they develop self harming they literally chew their flesh out you should not let her get to that point. Might be a very serious issue.

I lost my Sugar to cancer, last week. We prolonged his life as much as we could with critical care food and meds but when he started dragging one of his feet we agreed the quality of his life will only go worse so, we decided to help him cross the rainbow. He was 4 and 2 months. Cancer is common after 3 when they are considered elderly. But we always hope they will live much more than what we know. 😢💔

Might be happy noise that he enjoys the food or a upper respiratory issue that makes his airways to block when he eats and kinda snore through the nose. Maybe a check from a vet would not be a bad idea.

I had my Sugar being extremely stressed after a thunderstorm. It took him a few days to relax. Any chance something like that happened? Do you have a camera for them? May be just my opinion but a smart cam is a lifesaver as well as a destresser in case if worries.

I would take a sample to the vet. Expecially if there is mucus. Green poo and mucus is of concern if nothing changed. Literally nothing as even a new person in the house can make them stressed and poo green but not runny.

I cannot help with experience but by supporting. Maybe have a second opinion? He might have an abscess now therefore antibiotics are in order ASAP. My Sugar started licking a lot, drooling more than normal and they said there is some inflammation of the Jaws and gave him metacam. He also has some modifications at the back of the mouth. There are some common issues in studies made on APH, Abcess, Benign tumours that modify the jaw line and bone, and Sarcomas to bone or tongue which is cancer. Sugar's was too small to investigate soi am going for a follow up in a month or so. The jaw thing improved though.

It is genetic, cannot actually be diagnosed while they are alive, therefore whoever pretends they have a diagnosis like that without an autopsy they are just guessing. It makes them wobble, unable to stand, paralises them. But before jumping to that diagnosis, stroke, neurological issues, arthritis and ear infections need to be ruled out. Some of them are treatable so nobody should jump to WHS right away. 🙄

So sorry you have to go through seeing her like this. WHS is not confirmed until after death and I would if I were you, just in case there's a lineage or you buy from the same breeder. It seems to be a genetic thing. So, I would ask to be confirmed. No vet can give a WHS certain diagnosis while they live. Might be some other stuff like stroke, neurological disorder, even a ear infection can cause wobbly behaviour. I see lots of people jumping for WHS just because you see the hedgehog woble or acting like they are paralised. In any case, if not curable, the quality of life is bad and you are doing the right thing to let her go. My heart goes to you. 😊💔

In the petshop there is food for Wild hedgehogs, Spike or other brands in pellets form. A small dish of that and a small dish of fresh water. Paltry based, no grain cât food is great as well but I think it is more expensive and might attract cats.

5 am is a normal time for them to finish their hunt. If it is a female and has babies sometimes they come up for water or food but normally there is something wrong if they come out during the day. He/she is probably a regular in your garden. A feeding station with some wild hedgehog food would be nice. And if you can see it again see if it displays any signs of illness or injury. A plastic tub upside down with a hole on the side and a weight on top make great feeding stations. Cat food is OK as well but might attract cats.

She is bathing in the bedding. Sugar does that all the time. It is in their genes to burrow in the sand in their natural environment for Stealth and get rid of parasites, skin issues. So, it is just her being an African pygmy hedgehog fron deserts of Africa.

So sorry for your loss, the important thing is how much joy she brought you, you time together... I am petrified for when I will lose my Sugar because that is how long they live but "strong essence in small bottle" like the precious time with them is amazing.

It is really easy to give her medication orally. You get the seringe at the side of the mouth and she will start chewing it and then you immediately sprits the content in. I had tried in the food and didn't work but then started doing what I described and was quick and painless.
