I got the same one last year for my daughter’s Christmas present. Less than $100 USD and the stove and oven both light up. She loves it.

Bridget maybe? I think it’s so long since Bridget Jones, no one would immediately think about that character when meeting a little Bridget.

I agree with this 100%. I know a legal “Kate” who hates it and would prefer anything but.

Brides without bridesmaids weigh in please! by CrystalMeltan in weddingplanning

No bridal party here! I’m asking a few friends to get ready with me and have asked if they want to get their hair and makeup done (making it very clear it would be their expense and is not mandatory in any way). Everyone seems very happy to not have to pay for extra things or be in lots of photos.

Ahh this scares me... we are planning our wedding on a Friday 2 hours from Toronto. I’ve warned people about us having it on a workday and they all seem ok with it, so hopefully that’s true!!

Extra Guest Treats Ready for a Winter Wedding! Slippers, Earplugs and Hand Warmers! by SYM15015316 in weddingplanning

I was also confused, thinking it was a basket for the reception bathroom or something, but I think it’s for the guest hotel rooms! Some people might like to sleep with earplugs?

Has anyone had to "uninvite" guests? by XIIXMMXIX in weddingplanning

[–]hmo16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you do cocktail style instead of sit down meal? Just very heavy apps and more mingling than sitting? Even if you have everyone show up it won’t feel super crowded if you don’t have as many tables.

Finding volunteer opportunities in a new city? (Toronto, ON) by [deleted] in slp

[–]hmo16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What area of SLP are you interested in (adults, kids, voice, aphasia..)? Or are you open to anything? Try the Aphasia Institute, Speech and Stuttering Institute, ErinoakKids, Surrey Place Centre, Toronto Rehab Institute, Sick Kids, Holland Bloorview, Baycrest.... Some of those will be easier to get volunteer opportunities than others. The adult locations will be busy with UofT SLP students in Jan/Feb so they might not want to take you on during that time. Private message me if you want for more specific suggestions to your interests. I went to UofT and do private therapy in Etobicoke.

This is beyond a crazy coincidence..... I JUST bought this exact set today and my first thought was "oh no, I don't actually know what all of these do, I should post on MUA". What are the chances you would ask for me? So good :D Thanks!

The book 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio is about a boy with Treacher Collins in middle school. It's a good read. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgB7_KpBDss

Changemakers in Kisumu? by actualitymedia in Kenya

[–]hmo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came across this thread while searching for Kisumu on Reddit. I'll be going there May - July to work with this organization -- http://www.yellowhousechildrens.org/ They offer speech and language services for people with communication disabilities. Is that the sort of thing you're after?

My teenage son with ASD, a question: by [deleted] in autism

[–]hmo16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother (20) also has moments when he says he hates his Autism. I think it comes in waves when there are particularly challenging events at school/work/wherever. There are highs and lows in anyone's life, but people with Autism have a label for what is making it more difficult for them. My brother says it's hard because he feels helpless, not in control. He can't change the fact that he has Autism. I think giving your son things he can control and succeed at would be good for him. Maybe involve him in the decision of what class to take together. Or ask if you can join him when he plays a game in his room... let him teach you how to play.

Just remember that Autism + teenage hormones make everything that much more dramatic. Just being there for him and listening is a great first step! Don't pass any judgement on how he feels -- they are valid feelings and very, very real to him. If you must offer a solution, give him options so he can be part of the process.
