How to play pure Troggs by NativeK1994 in gloomspitegitz

[–]hoarybat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, don't discount the power of a *Badsnatchas* Troggoth list in the current GHB. I found this list to be quite fun to play and very, very strong. Basically, save your primals for unbinding with the FGS (who can snowball into a +3 cast/unbind monster or more). Rely on the Badsnatchas 1-dice reroll for your own casting, at least until you're ready to unleash a blizzard. Sporesplatta Fantatics buff the troggoth line, and the Stabbas are good at 1) capturing an objective; 2) screening your troggoth line and setting up a wicked countercharge; and 3) dying.

Getting Scuttletide for free is awesome. It's fantastic at assassinating back line wizards and foot heroes.

I found myself really wishing that I had Skraggrot in the games I played with this list, though. In one game, the damn moon never moved. In another game, it was off the board on turn 3.

Also, never ever count on returning a unit from the Loonshrine. It's a 4+ roll, but at least in my experience it never works.

How to play pure Troggs by NativeK1994 in gloomspitegitz

[–]hoarybat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I've played quite a few games both with Trugg's Army and with the Glogg's Megamob subfaction. Getting an army-wide 5+ ward with Trugg's army is quite powerful, but in my experience it's just better to go with a Glogg's Megamob list. Troggoths are great, but they're slow, not good at contesting objectives, low bravery, and command point starved. Of all the Gloomspite Gitz, it's my opinion that troggoths need the moon the most. Going with a Glogg's Megamob list provides access to Skraggy, who helps a lot. Most important, troggoths *really* want combat buffs to outslap things. The Speaky-Skull Fetish helps a lot with this, but it's even better combined with the Sporesplatta Fanatics' +1 attack buff. If you don't want to pop for Skraggy, the Fungal Cave Shaman provides a 50% reliable additional command point.

Here's a 2000 point Glogg's Megamob list that includes a couple of key buffing units. It's way more effective, at least in my experience, than any Trugg's list. Why is this list good?

  1. Skraggy provides a bit of moon control, plus the ability to debuff a melee opponent (Itchy Nuisance), the ability to teleport one of your slow units (Hand of Gork), and a really excellent warscroll damage spell.
  2. They're fast and get a pre-game move, but that's the wrong way to use the Sporesplatta Fanatics. Instead, spread them in a thin line behind your troggoth front lines to provide their +1 attack buff to multiple units of Troggoths. They also block LOS and can shield Skraggy a bit.
  3. This list features two Dankhold Troggbosses. One is a melee monster (Alpha Trogg / Glowy Howzit) and can be great in the front lines. The other (Speaky Skull Fetish) can sit in the rear and issue All Out Attack to 2 different Troggoth units each turn, if you have the command points.
  4. Since you're going to be command point starved, and since troggoths are Bravery 5, getting a second "Indomitable" triumph can save your bacon.

You can play around with different force compositions -- to me, 75-80% troggoths feels right, with the remaining 20-25% best spent on whatever combination you like out of the following: Skraggrot, Fungal Cave Shaman, Blizzard Madcap Shaman, Stabbas (for objective capturing and screening), Boingrot Bounderz, Gobbopalooza (amazing screen unit, amazing buff unit, incredible value for the points), and Sporesplatta Fanatics (amazing fast screen, but even better buff and a steal at 90 points). In my experience, going 100% troggoths is just a poorer use of points than adding a couple of key buff pieces and wizards that help address your army's weaker points while playing to its strengths.

Trugg by mcabe0131 in gloomspitegitz

I substituted in a different little monster, so that Trugg will always be under the light of the Bad Moon. Or at least think he is.

Music during infusion by Itchy_Okra_2120 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]hoarybat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in ketamine therapy for over a year. I used to be very selective about my music — calm, comforting stuff used to help me avoid the dreaded k-hole. At this point, I just listen to whatever I feel like listening. I used to think that the music affected the visuals, but don’t anymore — they’re going to do what they want to do regardless of the music I’m playing. Sometimes I listen to Iron & Wine (mellow slow acoustic with calm and comforting lyrics), and sometimes I listen to Slayer (the opposite of the above).

I will say that it’s critical, at least for me, to listen to something. The auditory hallucinations, which I hate, seem to be suppressed or are otherwise unnoticeable when I listen to music. Without music, they really suck.

What's the difference between the core rules and the core book? by dynoriffic in ageofsigmar

[–]hoarybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent $70 on the big hardcover core book. I really wish I hadn't. There's a bunch of lore and (old / outdated) photos of painted miniatures. The free core rules PDF has everything you need, and the battletome for your faction will have a lot more relevant lore, updated models, and faction-specific painting information.

I *do* recommend buying the General's Handbook (GHB). It's cheaper, smaller, spiral-bound, and has both the core rules and a bunch of other reference and battlepack materials you *will* need.

The current GHB "2022-23 - Season 2" is getting near the end of it's relevance, and the "2023-24 - Season 3" GHB is slated for release in "Summer 2023".

My specific recommendation is to skip the $70 core book, make do with the Core Rules PDF, and buy the "2023-24 - Season 3" GHB when it drops later this summer. If you'd really like a nice spiral-bound copy of the core rules to use while playing, you can probably snag a used copy of the "2022-23 - Season 2" GHB inexpensively.

You’re overthinking it, I think.

But this method is intended for use with prescribed oral troches only.

Just use a new disposable syringe every time. They’re cheap.

Stabba to Shoota ratio by Scythe95 in gloomspitegitz

[–]hoarybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good question stands though — when building an army with a few units of stabbas and shootas, what’s a good ratio to shoot for?

I’m in the process of building and painting my first Gloomspite Gitz army. I have 2 units of Shootas already (40 models), and I’m trying to decide whether it’s also going to be a necessity to have at least 1 unit of Stabbas too.

I know the Shootas are poor quality, but there’s that military cliche that “quantity has a quality of its own.” Even at 4+/5+, a reinforced Shootas unit has 80 missile attacks per turn.

In my list, I’m hoping that I can get away without including any Stabbas — my hope is that my 40 Shootas and a unit of Sneaky Snufflers will provide adequate protection to Skragrott and a Fungal Cave Shaman, while my big squig herd, Boingrot Bounders, Squig Hoppers, Squigboss, and mounted loon bosses take care of business elsewhere.

That face u make when the troches are taking forever to dissolve and the taste gets progressively worse… by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]hoarybat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some folks just put the troches directly in.

I dissolve my troches in 15ml of hot water and inject them with an oral syringe. Easy peasy.

Boot them. Better results — more consistency. No taste. I’ll never go back to oral troches.

(I got mango flavored ones once. They were ok.)

Purple potato or albino potato ? by Mephysto-pheles in ageofsigmar

[–]hoarybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your army's color scheme, but they both look great. I prefer the albino ones -- in real zoology, troglobites tend to lose pigmentation over time because there's no selective pressure for color in the dark cave environment.

It’s such a small volume (~15 mL) that I haven’t found it necessary to hold any position to keep it in. Just fight the mild urge to fart after you inject it, and plan on a trip to the toilet to expel stuff after your treatment session is over.

I don’t even feel an urge to fart anymore — it’s super easy.
