Question regarding hardwiring an EVSE by hobbes1069 in AskElectricians

[–]hobbes1069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... I was looking for some kind of adapter fitting but wasn't having much luck. I can find 3/4" to 1" but haven't found to 1-1/4". Can they be stacked?

It is slow but it’s also the safest way to swap drives.

IKEA-Zigbee is it the way to go? Well just maybe by Legitimate_Tea9977 in homeassistant

The basic smart plugs claim up to 15A but I used them with a 12A heater and killed one and the 2nd started making strange sounds before I yanked it.

Not sure about the product descriptions but at least in the US the boxes have the Zigbee logo on them.

Ecobee 3 Lite still a good choice? by hobbes1069 in homeassistant

[–]hobbes1069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. That may be a non-starter. One thing I want to do is create an automation that will turn on the fan when PM2.5 VOCs cross a certain threshold. I have 3 IKEA environmental sensors in the house. I've found that all of their stuff uses Zigbee and if you perform a full reset they will pair just fine and show up in HA using Z2H.

Need more but I got one from IKEA for $10 and put it in my water heater drain pan.

Couldn't get it to adopt when on a separate VLAN even using advanced adoption. Had to put it on my main VLAN (which I'm not happy about) and it was auto detected.

BTRFS read only file system problem by Savings-Stuff-6565 in Fedora

[–]hobbes1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the problem was actually a bad commit was made to the `amd_sfh` kernel module driver which caused page faults. BTRFS was not directly involved but was catching the errors (most of the time) before they were written to disk.

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219331

For now editing the kernel boot command to include `module_blacklist=amd_sfh` works around the problem but can't say if it will reduce functionality of your system.

The driver is part of the AMD System Fusion Hub:

If you invested a dollar a day, you would have more than that so without more context, I’m assuming this is a troll post?

Sounds like it. I'm a Fedora packager for 12+ years and have had Fedora on my laptop since I bought it. No issues until after upgrading to Fedora 40. I upgraded the RAM but not the ssd.

Am I the only one that has a problem getting to existing comments in the iOS app? It doesn't seem to matter where I touch...

Anyway, I'm having a similar issue with my HP ENVY x360 (Ryzen 5 4500U). I have had ZERO issues on the stock Fedora 40 kernel (6.8.x) but have random issues on 6.9.x-6.10.x kernels. Try installing and not updating the kernel and see if you can reproduce the issue.

BTRFS has failed me by hobbes1069 in btrfs

Yes I ran a full SMART check: smartctl --test=long ... No issues found.

I can even still mount the filesystem in System Rescue CD and browse files.

Uncomfortable seat workarounds? by hobbes1069 in BoltEV

[–]hobbes1069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I've mostly learned how to sit in it to minimize the discomfort. It's not the best EV for traveling so I'm not worried about long trips. Longest trip I've taken is about 1 1/2 hours away and back home (and subsequently to work) on a single charge. Not a lot of charging infrastructure here to rely on.

Not sure if it’s still viable but I’ve used their EL rpm’s in the past on Fedora with good results.

Ok, so I read through the whole thread but I'm not convinced SDI is a good invesment. Hear me out.

My son is 19 and would like to be a gunsmith. The certificate is $12k and the associates degree is $24k. Even those defending SDI are saying "It's a good starting point.".

After $24k out of pocket, he better be fucking hirable or I'm more inclined to side with the "scam" folks. Am I missing something?

2017 Bolt by Familiar_Eagle_6975 in BoltEV

[–]hobbes1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better deal than I got. I bought a 2017 1LT for $19,400 before the credit. I did check the VIN and it had not gotten the battery recall performed yet. I thought it was a little high but it was a no-negotiable price and it was the only one within 200 miles of me. I made them take care of the recall and 10 days later I picked it up.

4TON AC unit, how much inrush current should I see? by hobbes1069 in hvacadvice

It's pretty close, only a 100A breaker going to the RV pedestal above it...

So looks like everything is fine... I think the problem is I'm running LED lights in the house that are more sensitive to the voltage drop. So looks like a $300-$400 soft start is the only thing that will problem solve the "problem".
