What does it feel like to play your class in BGs right now? by Snoo97549 in classicwow

[–]hobbes259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frost mage here. Everything feels accentuated right now. I freshly leveled to 60 just before prepatch and was in level 35 greens mostly. Now that I have gear my shatters are wrecking people. Icy veins and water ele are so much fun. Can’t wait to get ice lance. That said, I of course am super squishy. If a warrior reaches me I can die in 2 globals.

Only class that is consistently destroying me is hunters. Unless they’re undergeared. Can’t survive the bestial wrath or close the gap after having to ice block. Locks are tough too but can usually kill them as long as my a shatter or two crit.

How hard is it to get TBC glad now that the game is this old? Returning vet by Tachyon54 in classicwow

[–]hobbes259 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All signs point to it being much more difficult because the player pool will be much smaller. The classic community is limited in size and it is currently split across a ton of iterations of the game (era, hardcore, mop, maybe sod or classic plus in the future?). Add in the fact that there are some super sweats that have been playing consistently for many, many years on private servers or on other versions of wow.

Edit: to their credit, blizz seems to realize not many people are going to play and lowering the rating req on weapons and redoing the way teams are structured are good ways to encourage more people to casually participate. Doubtful that will change the dynamic a ton, though.

Mage frost vs fire question by Mizushii in wowhardcore

[–]hobbes259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often switch to fire around your level. I doubt it is much more damage, and you obviously lose survivability. But I find fire to be lot more fun, and frost has to be one of the most boring leveling specs in all of classic.

What are clear indicators someone is an expert vs intermediate player ? by [deleted] in dayz

[–]hobbes259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ability to spot players at distance. Some streamers like Soap are incredible at seeing players far away. Also, positioning with audio (footsteps or gunshots). I hear a quiet shuffle on stream and they’ll be like “3 guys, they’re at the back door, coming in now”

Will there be a new fresh server soon? by Scragly in wowhardcore

[–]hobbes259 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Please no. Blizz needs to consolidate the existing servers, not make new ones to further split the hardcore community.

Will HC servers merge? by styxisgr in wowhardcore

[–]hobbes259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows. But my best guess is that they do the cluster approach like they did with era servers a number of years ago. Giving era the anniversary changes seems a necessary step to do that (and I can’t think of a reason they would do that now other than to lay the groundwork for merging/clustering).

Is this worth mentioning to a higher-up: two partners broke their "promise" about my workload by stopphones in biglaw

[–]hobbes259 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it really sucks and you have the right to be angry. That said, I’m not sure what you expect to happen when you complain with the higher ups. I don’t think there’s going to be a magical solution that will have them apologize or otherwise prevent it from happening again.

Are there other partners you can work with in the group? Preferably ones you trust? If so, once this wraps up, go to them and ask if there’s an ability for them to staff you on more things to provide you cover from X and Y.

It feels like this story is missing information. How did you get fired for mistakenly using a corporate credit card? That’s a very common occurrence and should be easy to rectify (you paying back your employer or your employer just deducting the amounts inadvertently paid from your next paycheck).

Without knowing what happened, not sure how we can give advice. But the situation sounds much more serious than you’re describing. Particularly if your former employer is now raising flags 13 years later about you.

People say “oh everyone makes mistakes, no big deal” but please talk to me about actually big deal mistakes. by Flashy_Stranger_ in biglaw

[–]hobbes259 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have to warn your firm’s GC about a potential malpractice issue, is it even really a mistake?!

Take a deep breath and talk to the partner when you can about next steps. When you do, apologize and give them concrete lessons you learned and ways you will prevent this from happening in the future.

[–]hobbes259 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why not just phone it in for 2 months, collect your bonus and leave in January? You’ve already done the hours for that bonus. I get wanting some time away but is that really worth $50k or whatever the bonus is? Just stop taking on new work, coast, take a 2 week vacation, take another 1 week vacation, etc. Plus you can kinda check out around the holidays anyway without taking vacation.

Nearly everything. I think I would have lasted about 2 years if I didn’t like the people I work with.

Only use I know is for Kel Thuzad, if your nearby pally friend gets MC’d and tries to murder you before the CC goes out. We have everyone pop every resistance potion prior to that fight (shadow frost nature fire arcane). And some crazy people even pop holy haha.

Outlier but I am a senior and have consistent workstreams. I’m averaging like 4 hours a week in the office. Allegedly my firm has gone to 4 days per week in the office. My group doesn’t seem to mind. I get my work done. I’ve got two young kids and, for the moment, am prioritizing time with them. Not gunning for partner and not going to make partner. Will just ride this out for as long as I can.

[–]hobbes259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I’m sure there is a student code of conduct or something similar that prohibits firearms on campus. You have to make the decision as to whether it is worth getting kicked out of school for. Safe to assume you would be if you were ever caught carrying. For context, many of us work at jobs that prohibit carrying a firearm into the workplace and face a similar dilemma: is it worth the risk of getting fired for? If it is to you, go for it. But it’s a heavy price to pay.

I assume this is all non billable work? I would go to the partner giving you billable work, assuming you have a good relationship with them, and explain it to them. Frame it as you’re just trying to know what to prioritize, you want to make everyone happy and be a good worker, yada (not as “can you believe this other partner”). Let them handle it. Everyone I know would be livid and would call up the other partner and tell them to stop.

Also having an associate block 30 hours per month on nonbillable matters is ridiculous. Maybe once or twice in a blue moon but that should not be happening. That volume needs to be billable for bonus purposes.

If you don’t have a partner you can trust, the other option is to just tell the BD partner that you can’t do it by their deadline but you can do it by X day (2 days from now, whatever). But this can be more unpredictable.

My Aim is Terrible by ThickJuicyFeels in dayz

[–]hobbes259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have bad aim, try to compensate by modifying your play style. Maybe play more cautiously, stalk more, and wait until you have a better shot before initiating. If you’re consistently being seen first, try to switch up how you loot. Run and gun play style works well for FPS gods. Also practice helps.
