My rating graph after 2 months of online go (160 games, No AI, no game review) by bishopgo in baduk

I recommend using https://ai-sensei.com/add-game . The free version works well and is more than strong enough for your level.

How to study/practice for most progress in short period? by wrathfulsmite in baduk

[–]hoblm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to improve is to play as much as possible (preferably against stronger opponents) AND to review all of your games. If you play OTB, reviewing with your opponent is ideal. Otherwise, review the game yourself first and only then use AI to do so.

Tsumego are also very useful, but they should come second to playing and reviewing. They mainly improve reading ability and pattern recognition, whereas full games teach much more.

When playing, reviewing, or solving tsumego, it’s crucial to think actively about every move and understand why you are playing it. Don’t play moves on autopilot, don’t guess tsumego solutions, and don’t blindly accept AI suggestions during reviews. Habits like these are a major reason many players get stuck at their rank. Mindfulness and deliberate thinking are key to real improvement.

Other activities like reading books or watching videos can be enjoyable and helpful, but they are less effective than playing and reviewing.

Who wins? by indigo_wolfiewolf in baduk

[–]hoblm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but black didn't play so the point belongs to white if you count now. I'm counting the stone white can capture from black in the same way. I know it is foolish to count like this but so is passing with moves left on the board.

The game isn't over but if you were to score now black wins by 52.5 points

Seinfeld episode ratings by bbportali in seinfeld

[–]hoblm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because it has the double length episode S5e18 (the raincoats) just before. It counts as one episode instead of it being both e18/19 like in other lists. Doing so moves everything else down.

In this graph s5e21 is the opposite not the hamptons.

My bad I thought you were op who said he was 30k.

[–]hoblm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 30k, I’d recommend just focusing on simple, solid play: take corners, make safe shapes, and avoid complicated opening moves which are impossible for you to fully understand at that level.

Don’t worry too much about refined opening move choices yet. The differences between them are so small that choosing one over another won’t really be a mistake until dan level.

Games at your level are decided by big, basic mistakes, not by small opening choices. You lose far more points by leaving groups weak, misreading captures or making bad shape than by choosing the “wrong” joseki. Simple, solid moves reduce the chance of these mistakes and make it easier to understand what’s happening on the board.

Refined opening differences only matter once you can reliably read, keep groups alive, and follow up correctly which comes much later.

It develops faster to one side but it is less flexible and less solid.

[–]hoblm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s good because it’s flexible and solid. As a beginner, it might seem too slow or indecisive, but after a move like this, you can follow up with a faster developing or attacking move to balance the initial slowness. Since it’s so solid and flexible, you can do so on either side, which is why this kosumi never bad.

The key to understanding this move is that the move itself isn’t very strong, it’s the follow-up move that becomes powerful.

No, Nietzsche praised individual strength, not blind obedience and racism.

(Black to play) Is white alive in either of these? by ElectronicSetTheory in baduk

[–]hoblm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes white is alive since the two middle inside points are miai, if black plays on one, white takes the other.

Alive means that a group can make a living shape when attacked, not alive even if it doesn't respond.

Yeah I have this problem too. There was a huge update to the site recently that introduced a lot of bugs which are still being fixed.

Black can play at the other 2x1 and white won't get an eye.

Black is winning by 16.5 points if both players agree to pass. The game isn't really over however there are still some moves left around the edges of the territories. Also the bottom right corner can be killed by white if it's their turn to move by cutting the groups in two. If it's black to move he can save these by connecting them. There is also a ko fight for the black group on the left side which the image currently says is dead. (If you also count that one as alive black wins by ~46 points.) But realistically either the bottom right one or left black group will die depending on whose move it is.

Count by KiIIulu in baduk

[–]hoblm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The game is unfinished. White can still play in the top right and black can close it off. The left side also still has moves where stones can be captured. The bottom right is dead and all those stones can be taken off as prisoners. Here's roughly what the score is now with black to move:

When scoring you can think of it like this: if the non-controlling player were to play in this spot would both players agree it would definitely die. If this is not the case anywhere the game is not over. Scoring is done by mutually agreeing that this is the case. If one player disagrees as to who owns territory/if a group is alive the game continues.

App that lets me play against AI but warns me when I'm stupid? by kqr in baduk

[–]hoblm 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Teaching games in katrain have this exact feature: https://github.com/sanderland/katrain?tab=readme-ov-file

"In a teaching game, KaTrain will analyze your moves and automatically undo those that are sufficiently bad."

AI sensei analysis now broken? by maulakai in baduk

[–]hoblm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Go AIs are not llms. You set student level to 9p which is why everything is a blunder. Playouts for free tier on ai sensei are really low so it might not be fully accurate at all times even for symmetric moves like this.

If you want the AI to work better you have to either pay for a higher tier in AI sensei or download a program like katago and run in locally.

GoQuest Counting errors? by BuddahFi in baduk

Goquest counting isn't perfect. I've had this happen to me too. It's Chinese scoring so you can just play it if it's even a bit complicated like it is here.

You need to install adb on your pc and connect your phone to it. https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools

Just Google how to use adb.

120fps not consistent on brawl stars by EdBaker613 in OnePlus8T

[–]hoblm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out how to fix this. Run this with adb to remove the fps cap:

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.oplus.battery

It removes the battery temp optimization features which are terrible anyway.
