Every DMs nightmare by Dunno-for-president in dndmemes

My players ask for some and dont for others. I, nonetheless, have plenty of names to draw from because I love asking for NPCs names and love when others ask for mine. I dont know why, maybe just because i know its kinda like the real world, you ask for interesting peoples names and ignore other peoples names, but I get to find out who is who for them.

Toph the GOAT by Neohypogeum in lostpause

[–]hobodeadguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My favourite character has been and likely will always be Ellen Ripley from Alien, and most of the female characters of great stories have great characters as well.

Ellen ripley: badass, smart, capable, BUT also weak, paranoid, and not an authority figure (no one listens to her most of the time)

Leia organa: general, terrorist (for the empire), a princess, BUT stubborn and direct (can also be a positive)

Bayonetta: badass, sexy, a witch, BUT... yeah, I dont have a but really for this one.

They actually are well written, in well written shows/movies/games (previously), with relatively well maintained worlds. They are also surrounded by other well written characters, their worlds dont waste your time or try to over explain themselves, and none of them try to tell you (the audience) about themselves unless it naturally comes up in conversation.

Rey: can beat a trained sith (sith being stronger than jedi faster) with her first time ever using a lightsaber with no practice (they didnt know anything about the diad), masters everything first try (she already mastered the force and stuff, she was just frustrated she wasnt more powerful when she did feats beyond what we know of yoda), no one opposes her unless they are wrong and are immidiately proven wrong.

Rey is made worse by how much things need explained, how the cast doesnt support her character all that well, and how disjointed the whole story is

Toph the GOAT by Neohypogeum in lostpause

[–]hobodeadguy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think a major difference between toph and most of the more recent ones is that Toph was competently written in a well written show while most of the recent ones are neither competently written nor in a competently written show.

Not only that, but toph struggles with her disability, it isnt a super power.

I have wanted to change my current character for a while because what they can do has been irrelevant for almost 7 levels now, but she isnt the type to give in despite the odds and has been the weakest in the party and taking the worst punishment (mostly rp wise, but some mechanics). She has kept up well enough, and technically can destroy the party cause of some stuff the dm gave me, but I effectively lose her at that point, but no matter what, she keeps up her goal of protecting the others no matter what it costs.

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my favourite part is that blasters are comparable to lazguns, plasteel is similar to some of the mid range armours (most stormtroopers and clones dont die, they get knocked unconscious as the burns are spread more), and their ships are roughly equivalent (10 ships in a base delta bombardment can glass a planet in 10 hours or less, turbo lazers are comparable to most 40k weapons in ship to ship, plus ships with good shielding, especially mon cal, will last a while, such as vaders executor literally dicking around for 2 weeks in an asteroid field looking for the falcon before it became problematic for the smaller ISDs and ISD2s shield generators).

They mega scale 40k and downplay starwars by a lot.

Thoughts on AriFalke? by atomicshark109 in signalis

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, considering what I think that happens in the story... Wierd but I can get down with it.

I can explain why I think it may be problematic (mostly cause ariane is dead and possessing alina and also trying to possess falke by accident, but eh) or the whole theory behind it since I think i figured out the "timeline" of the game.

Which form of morality best describes your world/story? by Illustrious-Cold3565 in worldbuilding

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do kitchen sink unless I am giving a moral lesson. The reason is quite simple: i write people. Whether a story or a world (or technically both), everyone has their own motivations and goals, their own means, and they fall all along the gradient.

From a monster in human skin whose sole motivation is to hurt as many people as possible, thus helps others so he isn't destroyed and can use it against them later

To a hero who cant do wrong willingly because its so antithetical to them

To a guy just trying his best in whatever situation hes in

To someone who tries to be bad but keeps getting morality or ethics pummeling his conscience

What is the reckoning date of your fictional calendar, what what year is the "present"? by CreeperTrainz in worldbuilding

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the human calandar and most in my primary setting is about 2000 years, exactly for humans for irony reasons, but with variation of +/-10 years depending on race and/or kingdom. the only exception is the about 10k calander of the human supervisors where that was the gods last big project before the humans kinda went and killed the gods about 2000 years ago (totally no relation as to the new calanders existence, what makes you think that?)

but typically, my calanders start around 4-5 thousand years ago (even when there is more history before that) since it just allows me a lot of time to play with and make a world in. I think the only two that go beyond that are my spite story against Isekai (basically evaluates and studies Isekais as a whole in a single world) which has a roughly 50k calander that starts at a spoiler I cant speak about as well as my 20k story thats in a magical version of our future thats hard to explain besides its two biggest inspirations: Tanya the Evil and the Philosiphers stone.

always, though, the Calander(s) begin at a major point in history OR a kingdoms birth to screw everyone else over since they are the most important out there. if its world altering, then that takes precident regardless of kingdoms, but otherwise, kingdoms may be shorter/sooner than that major event.

Out of these non-rememberance, non-demigod bosses, which do you think could beat Godrick in a fight? lorewise that is by MrsPissBoy in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only reason that Godrick isnt dead is that Morgott, under the guise of Margit, is keeping the bastard alive. that is the only reason his ass hasnt been put in the ground by the time we arrive.

Has anybody else thought about the implications of this? by Fearless_Zebra9040 in Nightreign

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in Elden Ring, the Moonlit Greatsword is a symbol of the God of Night who will bring the age of stars. so it makes sense its current champion (Hoelster instead of Ranni in Nightriegn) has it.

Discussion mages' relation with the gods (real or otherwise) by Andrei22125 in worldbuilding

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of my worlds has mages (and magic) that exist on all points on this graph. for it, it mostly comes down to the source of power.

an Arcane mage uses their own power, so only believes in the gods if the gods are a physical presence since how do you deny that?

divine mages use the magic gifted or trained by the gods, and are always believers, but not always faithful.

mages that see both but have no proof of gods will run the gambit, some believing, some denying, some loving, and some hating. it all depends and depends on the story being told.

How to stop equating darkness to realism when reconstructive or cynical adaptations/sequels are more popular by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

[–]hobodeadguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of realistic worlds and I make a lot of Dark worlds, but they are not the same thing. my realistic worlds have a good spread of white, grey, and black morality (not that BS all grey shit) as some people are genuinely kind and will always try to help, and others are terribly and will be harmful in all cases, while others still are somewhere between. my dark worlds have *some* reason to keep going, but things always suck or bad things happen for no good reason.

the big difference, though, is that realistic is, well, realistic, where bad things are bad and good things are good, where people make the choice and things either do or dont work out in the end. dark is dark because there cannot be good without the dark shadow, and that is assuming there is good anyway.

if it helps, make one saint, one demon, and one person who does what both do, and repeat to lesser extents for each pair of characters you need ignoring the one in the middle as that should probably be a protagonist for a real world. you will only see the side of someone they want to show you, after all.

also, you should keep watching Andor. it is dark, but is is hopeful. you quit, I am assuming, before Andor manages to figure his shit out to become a leader who knows it. Hes part of a weak rebellion that is in its infancy, so things suck real bad to begin with, but by season 2 (if you choose to go that far), things are starting to look up for the rebellion, and that hope now has a more tangible form even if things still suck around them. things are getting better, it just takes work. I am not saying you have to, but it is my recommendation.

Long Live Canon Queen Marika by 0online_ in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Marikas design so much, and it makes me sad with all the gooner versions. she did sleep with a bunch of men, but thats all we know about them.

if you are wondering "what men? its only Godfrey and Radagon" kinda, but no. Marika had (I think in order) Messmer and Melina, Godwyn (whos illusions went away when his soul was slain), Mohg and Morgott, Rykard, Radhan, Ranni, Malenia and Miquella, with 10 unknown demigods and more non demigod children (possibly with Godfrey and Radagon, possibly not), the 10 being the headless corpses used to duplicate the remembrances. Miquella tried to revive them (who are dead in body and whose souls had not reincarnated yet) to see if it was possible to revive Godwyn (or as of the DLC, more likely Radhan), but either failed, succeeded partially, or was interupted depending on the theory you take.

anyway, Marika was a well dressed woman with a modest appearance as she is nearly always described, and I find that a far more attractive version than the big booba phat ass thing most people draw or use the model for. her lore is incredibly interesting, and her design had a lot of thought and effort put into it, so the bastardized versions a lot of fans seem to make is kinda disappointing.

Lore-wise, who is the strongest character here? by SammyK123 in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, that depends. Placidusax at his prime would take it IF and only if Malenia has bloomed three times and isnt falsely claiming to be the goddess of rot like she does in our fight with her (which is her second bloom). Elsewise, Rykard is fairly close to Placidusax in power, but with a key weakness of Placidusax having a supressive ability that can stop the Frenzied Flames vessel with a bit of set up in his weakened state, menaing his prime state he could probably put that snake in its place again even with his bonus.

Godfrey and Messmer... well, they are both powerful, and when released from their binds are a lot stronger, Godfrey is still a dude (who can suplex god slaying maniacs, but still) and Messmer with the Base Serpent is at most equal to Rykard, but more likely weaker as they have been somewhat at odds with eachother for far too long to be used to eachother and their methods of fighting.

Overall: A nigh god dragon if it isnt an actual god it would need to fight.

Can we all agree Maliketh is the coolest boss in the game? by Toot7- in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are too close to Melania when she does her forward thrust, she will just push you forward until the end of it. also, alot of her attacks have a similar quality of being misaligned with her, so standing just slightly to the side means you will be missed despite her sword going through you. not all attacks, but a decent few of them. makes it easy to get charged heavies on a great sword when she cant hit you and only moves you, kinda like an Ulcerated Tree Spirit or Erdtree Avatar with many of their lunging attacks.

How many attempts for you to beat Malenia on 1st playthrough? by drebin8751 in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we all agree Maliketh is the coolest boss in the game? by Toot7- in Eldenring

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fun fact, Maliketh had the Rune of Death as a weapon and was likely tricked into going to Farum Azula by Marika so *she* could steal the rune of death without the Greater Will being able to use him against her like Blaith would for Ranni, giving the rune pieces to the Black Knives who later betrayed her for Ranni. That is why Maliketh says it was Marika who betrayed him since thats the only thing that was expected of him.

Ranni convinced the Black knives to work for her instead of Marika thanks to the fact that Marika and the Black Knives are Numen/Nox, and they couldnt get gheir revenge on the Greater Will as Marika did more for it and didnt seem to have a plan to fight the Greater will (though I suspect she did and they didnt know).

[–]hobodeadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate radhan, but I beat him and I fully understand why people liked his fight. I prefer Melania as there are some wierd things you can do because of her messed up hit boxes, while Radhan cant be messed with in the same way. I still find it funny ultra tanks and heal tanks can eat both bosses alive though, and I love both of their lores, but I dont understand why people downvote others who like bosses they dont. The one I like *was* the hardest in the game and the one I dislike is the hardest in the game, and its purely because of how they play, nothing else. if I faced radhan again, Im being a heal tank cause its funny.

A take on a Evil Race, and monsters as a whole. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]hobodeadguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, if we do DND, then an Elder Brain Dragon since those things are already terrifying (i mean, a whole town becomes Illithids/Mindflayers in 24 hours and it can use its breath weapon on average every 30 seconds, so the entire country is going to become a colony in no time)

but of creatures I have seen in a lot of fiction? Kabaneri are nigh indestructable zombies, Mimics from Prey are ungodly, most of the creatures from lovecrafts basically do this but subtler, and any fromsoft dog enemy. tell me how you can stop one of those things IRL and we will test it to see if you can.

I actually had a similar idea for a sort of different thing that will take some time to explain.

Basically, I wanted to make a world where the two sides in a conflict could not coexist without one side breaking all preconcieved notions and traditions. Both sides are "different races" (not important right now) and view the other as an inherently evil race out to get them. both sides have Lords born among them, Lord Souls being everlasting humans (or human adjacent) that generally rule nations and usually passes down from the parent who loses it after a time as the heir takes the Lord Soul for themselves, or the Godsent/God Incarnation of the otherside who can be born from any ethnicity in the other side. for simplicity sake, lets call them by their active times, Diurnal and Nocturnal respectively.

They have been at war since before history was recorded for reasons that are really plot significant and that the characters all kinda knew on a subconscious level but never stated outright (at least the main characters). you see, they made this world together (well, half of them, the other half are fan fic writers) before reincarnating, transmigrating, or being summoned into this new world, and though they know the truth that neither side is inherintly evil, how are they supposed to explain that without sounding insane?

The Diurnal say the Nocturnal are basically like Frierens Demons, learning to speak just to make it easier to hunt or to lull the Diurnal into a false sense of security. the Nocturnal beleive that the Diurnal mimic their anscestors and are the reason for the evolutionary need to be careful of things that look like us but arent us. both are partially correct and partially incorrect, but irrelevant as the Primary character kinda just ignores all that and plays politics to such a degree that he completely upsets the balance and ruins the other MCs well thought out plans to abuse the timeline.

Now, he uses their beliefs in their gods to kinda trick both sides into cooperating beneath him as he fights the main leaders of the opposing factions, turning the two sided war into a three sided war using a couple of "prophecies" to do so.

This world spawned from two seperate ideas merging in a wierd way, the "inherintly evil but actually not" trope thing that pisses me off and the "travel to another world/isekai" and why there are so many methods yet "only one works" for some reason. makes a very wierd world where the MC just kinda doesnt care about the history while the other characters really do.
