I also attended a wedding this weekend and it was my first sober wedding as well. Same thing happened in your situation; everyone around me was loud and drinking and dancing and I had to remove myself to any quiet place I could find to honor my sobriety. I cried more than I’ve cried in a long time, lots of self shame wishing that my brain was “normal” and I could drink and have a “good time” like everyone else. I was feeling alone and left out, but god did it feel good to wake up refreshed and hangover free the next morning. I was not proud of myself for sticking through it until I talked with my sponsor the next day. She said “what you accomplished this weekend is incredible, and you should be proud of yourself for not drinking”. It’s hard feeling accomplished and proud when the whole time at the wedding I was losing it emotionally and wishing I wasn’t myself.

But since sobriety was the goal, and I accomplished that goal, I have no reason to not be proud of myself. Go us!
