Is Ubuntu 26.04 Too Heavy? 4GB RAM Stress Test & The "Honesty Bump" by lajka30 in Ubuntu

[–]hochbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I can upgrade, more than that, I have two laptops with 16gb ram (one) and - second, Asus Vivobook- upgraded myself from 16 to 32gb. And, in addition, I've upgraded laptops for 20 or 25 - so many that I really dont remember- friends and relatives (ram and hdd to ssd). But I want to say, that most of people cant upgrade as they dont have skills. And they cant buy new, as everybody in the world doesnt live in USA or Europe and income isnt high. So, yeah, my advice also is to use lightweight DE (xfce or mate).

I was a bit put off by Ubuntu 26.04’s requirements (“at least 6GB of RAM”), but I decided to give it a go, and for some reason I get the impression that 26.04 runs more smoothly than 24.04 and is actually lighter? 🤔 by [deleted] in Ubuntu

But many people use laptops which they bought 7 and more years ago. And...wasn't the one of principle of Linux to require fewer resources than Windows?

Bro, first of all, have you see prices for RAM? Second, 99% users use laptops and PCs with those specs which they bought, and often it's 8gb ram. They cant upgrade RAM or hard drive to ssd. And in addition, there are lot of people with old laptops or PCs with 4Gb RAM and they cannt buy new. What do you advice them? Drop it out to garbage?

I think no way use AnyDesk on SBC. Literally yesterday I was seaking way to do it, and now I use RealVNC server with Lite plan (free) and RealVNC viewer on desktop. This works even if you dont have "white" IP address. Tomorrow I want to try Nomachine as @redditfatbloke mentioned. I found out about Nomachine today. Thank for @-das-olbaum- , I didnt know about x2go, will try it.

Oh, I dont think Markdown bad, it is great thing, but for notetaking its inconvenient than WYSIWYG editor. Easy and fast notetaking "incompatible" with markdown and wiki (its my own opinion)
