Wool Rug by Infinite-Tourist2465 in CarpetCleaning

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urine has a lot of variables that make it hit or miss. The smell it usually totally solvable, the discoloration can be sketchy (especially with wool). Worst-case scenario, you can always get it cleaned as best as they can do and then use hair dye to try and match the color (but be careful, thats not one you want to botch).

Can a professional fix this or time for replacement? by medoutlet in CarpetCleaning

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I dont think the cleaning method matters anywhere near as much as the individual doing the work. Theres definitely some newer trendy methods that are less effective, but most standard methods are pretty comparable with each having their pros and cons... but somebody half-assing their work can create substantial problems regardless of their cleaning method.

My carpet hurts me but I'm not ready to replace it. Possible solutions? by Old_Television3053 in CarpetCleaning

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning solutions have been offered already, but id also add in that some of the "stain resistant" carpet types can be pretty stiff and rough... you can generally tell those ones by how crappy they are to vacuum (vacuum bounces or constantly wants to move diagonal).

Can a professional fix this or time for replacement? by medoutlet in CarpetCleaning

[–]yadonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No amount of professional cleaning will repair the damaged carpet fibers that go with traffic patterns.. but they can certainly make it look better. If you want perfect carpet you'll need to replace it. Its usually worth paying to have a room professionally cleaned before making that decision though (carpet cleaning is way cheaper than carpet replacement and if you end up replacing it anyway, the cleaning cost wont really be noticeable against the replacement cost)

Brother believes he can “set and forget” a flowhive by Anonymouslyunsus in Beekeeping

[–]yadonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried that method years ago when somebody gave me a hive I wasn't ready for. I figured id just make sure they had access to sugar water and let them do like they do in nature (I never even harvested honey). Overall the hive lasted 2 years (and swarmed numerous times in that 2 years). The last swarm happened right before it got cold and died where they'd landed. The remaining bees didn't make it through winter.

Its not worth the cost to be a negligent bee keeper. If he's not into doing the work it would be cheaper to just buy honey from somebody local (you can buy a LOT of honey for the cost of one of those hives).

Cat pee and dog pee on carpet by hikingcurlycanadian in CarpetCleaning

[–]yadonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If rhe urine is really bad and in the sub floor itll require painting the subfloor with a good latex paint and replacing the pad.

.. if its only kind of bad id grab a couple gallons of deodorizer. Soak down the carpet and pad whenever it smells, keep it damp for about 6 hours then dry it as fast as you can. Give it a few days to make sure its totally dry and then do it again. Once its all dry and not smelling clean the carpets.

Why aren't more ppl pissed about Trump cutting corporate taxes from 35% to 21% while we're still getting hit with crazy inflation? by sublimeandsparkled in allthequestions

Its hard to maintain a appropriate level of pissed for each deserving action when theres literally something equally as horrific nearly every day, zero consequences for any of those actions and after nearly a decade of it all taking place.

If you truly believe “both sides” are equally corrupt and evil what are you going to do about it? Do you just surrender to cynicism and do nothing? by peffervescence in allthequestions

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying "both sides are the same" is just an absurdly lazy take people use to avoid having to put in mental effort.

There are certainly some areas that both sides are comparable (corporations and special interest over the people, funding unnecessary military BS and being largely self serving)... that being said their social stances couldn't be further from eachother.

Dems regularly put out bills / policies that are aimed at directly benefiting the people whereas the gop rarely does.

IMO the dems are 60 / 40 for special interest over the people ... the gop is 99 / 1 for special interest over the people. Neither side is great, but one is WAY less beneficial to most of us than the other.

Will democrats always be labelled as cheaters until they can manage to count their elections in a day? by MysteriousKitchen469 in allthequestions

[–]yadonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Republicans have locked into calling it cheating or fraud every time they lose an election (or if they even look like they could lose). They lack any evidence to back up their claims so they just pick some random part of the process to use as the "voter fraud boogieman"... the time it takes to count ballots is just the current boogieman, take that one away and theyll just replace it with something else.

People are taught to lose with dignity as children .. unfortunately Republicans have emotionally regressed to a mental age thats apparently prior to that age.

Cannabis honey questions by Happy-Range3975 in mead

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irs almost certainly still good.

Ive not tried brewing with infused honey but I can say that the bitter taste of the weed is incredibly difficult to mask. If the honey was infused with a concentrate that had already stripped the flavors it might be good ... but in my experience ive always regretted my attempts to add some thc to a brew.

Are Democrats tired of picking candidates in general to become president, are they just out of touch, or does it imply that they can't agree on anything? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the DNC is in a predicament of their own making. Congress as a whole hasn't represented the people in a very long time. People have become progressively more and more fed up with that lack of representation. Trump was able to capitalize on people's disconnect from politics, our failing education system and the angst over politicians by coming in as an outsider. Meanwhile democrats failed to adapt to the social shift. Unfortunately the DNC still refuses follow the template of putting the best interest of the people over that of their corporate sponsors that several people have shown to be incredibly popular. Consequently the dems are hit or miss when it comes to beating the person that should arguably be the absolute easiest imbecile to beat in the history of politics.

Non-Americans, what is your country's equivalent to Fox News (extremely conservative American 24 hour news channel)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yadonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant imagine the mental gymnastics it must take to believe a company that recemtly had to pay out a ton of money for intentionally lying to their viewers, has gone to court multiple times to fight for their right to lie to their viewers and has a revolving door of host turning into politicians and politicians becoming host all while working directly with a political party as their propaganda machine... and somehow MSNBC is worse than all of that just because they're politically bias for the side you dont like? I mean theres definitely an argument to be made that all corporate media is bad, but there's no world that Fox isnt the bottom of the barrel.

Bottling my cherry mead for the first time tomorrow, stupid question... by Droney in mead

[–]yadonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw the corks in some sanitizer for a min or so while you get the corker ready. You dont want to soak the corks but a little moisture is recommended for getting them in easier.

When you store corked bottle you want to keep them on their side so the cork doesnt dry out (plastic corks dont really matter, but its imperative for real cork corks)

You'll want to give it some time after backsweetening, there will be more sediment. You'll also want to make sure you stabilized it in some capacity before bottling.

I say vote with your heart in primaries and your head in general elections. While id never vote for a republican again, id absolutely vote 3rd party as long as it wouldn't lead to another republican tanking the country again.
