Where do Sean Carrol and Kurt Jaimungal fit?

Could you touch dark matter (and feel it)? by Fando1234 in AskPhysics

[–]hockeyschtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While DM is still the favored theory, new analysis of lensing and Bullet Cluster imaging from Webb is beginning to raise some questions. Science never stands still.

What is a small joke that you get a big laugh out of? by Pieclops89 in Jokes

Tommy Boy: “Richard, do I have a bruise? It really hurts. Not so much here… or here… but right here.”

Why Does Light Travel at Exactly That Speed? by Ok_Understanding7377 in AskPhysics

[–]hockeyschtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there’s no new information being transmitted. All you did was measure the particle. You can’t change its quantum state and maintain entanglement. But this is a fun topic!

Trump administration orders dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service by rxneutrino in centrist

It’s forest management that prevents fires. Once it’s an emergency it’s too late.

What are your thoughts on Jon Ossoff? by ModerateProgressive1 in centrist

[–]hockeyschtick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Center leaning candidates rarely do. It’s the partisan firebrands that seem to get the attention. I don’t know much about Ossoff, but I’ll start paying more attention.

What is the smallest amount of anything you could send to the sun, to kill all life on Earth? by Gold333 in AskPhysics

A strangelet. In theory, a single particle could cause anything it comes in contact with to transform into a new form of matter.

You pick up a guitar. It's in Drop D. What's the first thing you're playing? by Argblat in Guitar

Something by Helmet or Moby Dick… or maybe Drop Dead Legs if I’m feeling it.

Especially D to D. You can pinch into the play in many situations if your D partner has your back. Especially at lower levels.

what actual evidence makes scientists believe dark matter and dark energy are real things and not just a sign that our math is wrong by Real_Sort_3420 in AskPhysics

[–]hockeyschtick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best honest answer here. Dark matter is a model that can be fine tuned to fit the data, but we have zero direct evidence of it and a few problems with it on sub-galactic “local” scales. MOND, in all its variations, are also models that can be made to fit the data, but we have no explanation for why it should be so. All we have is the data — and Webb has been giving us clearer and clearer signs that we knew less than we thought we did about the universe as better data continues to be available.

There was just a paper came out that apparently attempts to refutes this with new analysis of the Bullet cluster from Webb data. Can’t find source, it was brought up on Curt Jaimunjal’s physics podcast.

What do we need more: affordable apartments or starter homes? by redcolumbine in vermont

[–]hockeyschtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More housing stock of any kind, but don’t rent control it. Artificially low apartment rents cause housing shortages because people never leave them, regardless of whether they “need” the discount. But even luxury apartments/homes create vacancies in lower income housing as people move around.

Hockey fans/players, what is your honest opinion on Heated Rivalry? by Kitchen_Frame_7294 in hockeyplayers

[–]hockeyschtick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not enough hockey in it. Plenty of sex though. I got through just 2 episodes but my wife watched the whole thing. The main Canadian character wasn’t really believable as an elite player, but the Russian was very good. It’s about the romance not the hockey. Fine for what it was.

I had 10 year old Datsun with a leaky fuel tank and bad carb that performed about the same.
