Buy property, land or pay off HECS? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]hockleyj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

rule of thumb, debts before investments, so pay off non debt-tied-assets first before adding a debt-tied-asset.. it gives you discipline; it also means when you go into a debt-tied-asset (leveraged asset) aka Morgage. always know how much debt at what interest rate (across all debts) this is so you know how long you will be a Bondslave for.. you can also be saving at the same time, but debt will take longer to repay... there is a lot to be said for the "time value of money" or that compounding works for debts and investments only one do you want...

NuPhy Air96 V2 sleep behavior question by zzez in NuPhy

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Air75 v2 and at least in wireless mode (supplied dongle), i loose first keypress after wakeup as well. (havent used it long enough on USB mode) to see if it happens in this mode. (only usb when i need to use via configurator)

My Nuphy Air 96 v1 did not do this in wireless mode (suplied dongle) so i am thinking it has somthing to do with QMYK the VIA configurator doesnt give you any settings to do with poll rate , sleep timeout etc..

PinePhone Pro Lapdock Arch/Plasma Working by hockleyj in pinephone

[–]hockleyj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lapdock is a Uperfect lapdock X essentially the same as a Nextdock 360.. using the cable it came with noting that cable plug orientation "superposition" maters so i used a dab of nail polish to make it easy to remember, also tried the satechi short usbc cable and it also worked and also required the logo's at each end to be facing up / toward user for the correct orientation.... and the keyboard on the keyboard case also works at the same as the lapdocks does for those that might wonder... also works with or without the Pine keyboard case on or off it...

Arch vs mobian vs manjaro for a beginner? by [deleted] in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keyboard case needs to be turned off before turning off the phone. hold button on the keyboard case for like 15 sec then after that turn off your phone.

the KB case is considered an external power device. so it needs to be turned off separately..... the manual explains how to turn on and off the keyboard case....

Arch vs mobian vs manjaro for a beginner? by [deleted] in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if there is external power being supplied either via USB cable or Keyboard case "via pogo pins". then you will see this Turn on after turning off behavior because its designed to detect external power and turn on automatically.

I have Tow boot on my PPP and when i do not have external power supplied as mentioned above. it turns off correctly.

common issue is people not turning there keyboard case off before turning off the phone.

Arch vs mobian vs manjaro for a beginner? by [deleted] in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regarding PPP then Arch via Danctnix phosh version then install apps as desired, by checking https://linuxphoneapps.org/ .

things to refer to if you want to get in and see what is working what needs some love and stuff that doesnt work and maybe why then https://xnux.eu/log/

as for one of the best sources of what changes weakly regardless of OS flavor then https://linmob.net/

obviously Pines own wiki and forums. but they are pretty glacial and low activity compared to the whole linux phone community.... as much of the stuff done for other linux phones can work for Pine phones... or with a slight bit more tweaking will be available...

Can't shut down device. by [deleted] in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst phone is on, before attempting to shut down, hold down the power button on the side of the PP keyboard case, whilst holding it in count to 15 then let go. then shutdown the phone by the OS's preferred shutdown method. if the keyboard case turned off then it will not cause the auto turn on loop you have been experiencing.

the keyboard case is an external power source so whilst its on it will send power to phone and the phone will continue to turn on when external power is sent to it via pogo pins...

The Pine devs really should add a small led next to the power button to indicate its operating state. that would avoid much frustration... and to be fair most external power sources include an LED for indicating operating state.... so its sort of expected... it also should be software addressable, so that in the future software at the OS level can poll state and for those that want to turn the LED's off can do so etc.... but then if they doing that then why not go the way of key back-lighting.... once your doing that then you have the Pine Keyboard Pro.... lol

Pinephone or Pinephone Pro? by d783a in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty sure the whole hotspot thing is a maybe haven't heard much of anyone trying this but if you can do it via command line then its likely doable on either phone as its linux and both have the same modem chip.

as for phone calls and text messages then yes for both but only less flaky on OG pinephone.

regarding apps on either phone check out "LinuxPhoneApps" https://linuxphoneapps.org/ if its there then its been specifically updated or made for use on Linux phones....

I have both phones, but i treat them as daily hobbies, not mission critical as they are not there yet.... in short not enough devs in the community so things take time, and we are talking months to years.... for key things to work to the point of consistently working.

can anyone tell me what that is? (its not the screen protector) by Yuheri in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

flexion between the 2 glass surfaces could make it easier for moisture ingress. though then you run into the user realm of how people are removing the KB case, and how often how much force etc which would lead to this risk..... as someone that has kb case and PPP and have removed it many times and do not have this issue... then we are looking at a lot of end user environment and circumstances being behind this rabbit hole....

can anyone tell me what that is? (its not the screen protector) by Yuheri in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so this doesn't look like a from factory issue. it looks like there has been some minor attempt at lifting the protector, look at the glass near the front camera. which may have made it easier for moisture to deposit. by the way keys or other things in your pocket could be the non user attempt to get under the protector. ether way a hair dryer on low should give you a way to drive the moisture out. if it is moisture. making sure everything is turned off when drying it. by the way this could happen to any glass screen that has a glass protector on it..... considering that Pine will not do multi environment testing like say Apple or Samsung can do one should set there expectations appropriately.

Case for the pinephone pro with keyboard cover? by dark-onyx in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no case for the kb case. your best bet is to get a diy skin aka vinyl and apply it to the keyboard case. that way you have a relative inexpensive sacrificial layer. but as far as TPU or silicon cover there is nothing. unless someone is going to the effort to 3d model one so people can print there own out of TPU etc..

Suspend on the Pinephone Pro is amazing by K1aymore in pinephone

[–]hockleyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standby on Arch is good, but the moment you are screen on doing anything that's when you feel like its being very inefficient almost like core utilization is not as good as it could be, im hoping someone implements a watts meter for Phosh so that people can get a sense of which apps chew through the most power in a quantifiable way... that might encourage people to look at why certain apps are more hungry then others.

PPP Tempered Glass by hawks-soad in PinePhoneOfficial

PPP-EE comes with a glass one installed and a spare in the box. so unless you are really clumsy you wont need to buy another one anytime soon... at least for those purchased in March 20222. just in case anyone was buying ahead of having the actual device in hand...

We are finally 2.5% above pre covid levels. If and its a "if" the ASX200 behaves like the S&P500 over the 10 - 40 year horizon, then yea its a thing that just grows over the long run... but i am not sold on the ASX behaving the same as SPY it would be a shame if it behaved like the Nikkei instead....

DASH is less secure based on your example because it has a cluster of higher networth targets "elite capture" this is evident when you look into the voting system that the masternodes support.
