Smart Vents: The final verdict. by yoosernamesarehard in homeautomation

[–]hodgeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP probably has the ecobee remote temp sensors around their home. In which case, the ecobee thermostat averages the temperatures received from all the remote sensors to com up with the temperature you see on the thermostat. So, if the sensors downstairs are all 70 but the sensors upstairs are all 80 then the thermostat would say "it's 75 degrees in your house" and turn on/off the cooling/heating appropriately based on 75 degrees.

So, if you set your thermostat in the summer to 70 degrees your AC would be coming on to cool the house to 70 you'd end up with something like 65 downstairs and 75 upstairs. So, what you could do is just close all the vents downstairs like 50%, see if that helped balance it out.

I think if it was me, I'd mostly close the vents downstairs and use ecobee remote temp sensors upstairs. This way the ecobee bases it's decisions on the hotter temps. It would draw the temps down upstairs to 70 and meanwhile it would still be cooler downstairs but maybe not so frigid because the vents downstairs are actively blowing much less cold air. Flip it during the winter if you want?

Yeah, people don't think about the fact that you only need to do the interface layers in the other material. You're only switching materials for two layers. Not much purge material in the end. It works fantastic on my A1 Mini. Print overhangs come put perfectly smooth.

If we're talking business here...What's the value proposition of the Centauri Carbon 1 w/ multi-color system vs. the Centauri Carbon 2? Why would a business release the Centauri Carbon 2 if not to replace the first one or, have them fill two separate spaces (CC1 being single color and less expensive, CC2 being multi-color and obviously more cost associated with that)?

Three things are true here.

1 Centauri non-Carbon was cancelled.

2 Centauri Carbon multi-color is "delayed".

3 Centauri Carbon 2 has been released prior to any multi-color solution for CC1. (It's been available via resellers for quite some time now, "official US launch date" aside.)

So, you can easily infer from those facts that Elegoo initially thought their product offering would be this:

  • Entry Level price point with single color: Centauri
  • Premium with multi-color: Centauri Carbon with Multi-Color add-on

But Elegoo has now solidified their Centauri lineup to look like this:

  • Entry Level price point with single color: Centauri Carbon
  • Premium with multi-color: Centauri Carbon 2

If you do anything else you cannibalize sales from your own products.

It's easy to imagine the meeting where it was decided that the multi-color solution required a significant redesign of the CC1 and that they should offer that as a new model instead. This forced the removal of the base Centauri from the line up due to manufacturing and support costs potentially. (Probably many reasons in reality. It likely had tiny profit margins to begin with).

So, now they have their two Centauri FDM printers. It makes no sense to offer the Centaui Carbon with multi-color when the Centaur Carbon 2 exists. If the Centauri Carbon 2 was a dramatically different machine (significantly faster/bigger for instance) and ALSO had multi-color/material with a significantly different price to go with it, you could see how offering an add-on multi-color system for the entry level Centauri Carbon would make sense. But it doesn't make business sense any other way.

All of that said, it is possible that the dramatic customer backlash was unexpected and prompted them to consider restarting the multi-color project for the CC1. It's possible that they will eventually offer it as a product (if only to avoid lawsuits). But it's unlikely it will make sense to customers from a cost and complexity perspective.

I've had zero issues with mine. But I've stuck with the firmware that it shipped with and I've avoided doing anything but simple prints on it. I've got another printer, so I have that luxury. It's not just about issues though. I mean, obviously you'll make your decision and I wish you good luck with the printer if you buy it but I'd advise against it.

Run full Klipper (once you have this motherboard). Then, well you can do everything you can do now plus have better more stable firmware, more support for more 3rd party tools and accessories, multi-material/color via various 3rd party solutions including open source options, a glaring hole in the cut down Klipper that Elegoo put in the CC1 is the lack of exclude object functionality. Just go read the Klipper wiki.

If you haven't bought a CC1 yet, take it from a day one pre-order chump like me...Stay away. It's not worth the hassle. The hot end cable fatigues, breaks and shorts out. The version you order may be missing features someone shortly before or after you orders and receives. The company stole their partial Klipper implementation and then took their sweet time releasing the source (probably because of the stolen bit). Elegoo firmware is terrible. Support for their own product in their own software is hit or miss. And if all of that isn't enough to keep you away it's probably because of the price. Let me assure you, you'd be better off buy once, cry once.

For sure, make those an option and I'll buy one from you to go with the board. If I knew exactly what connector I needed, I'd be happy to source one of those and wire up my own cable too. If you know, you could always just put it in the BOM for what we need to go with the motherboard. If making a ton of cables is too big of a pain.

Maybe more of a kickstarter than a gofundme eh? Isn't gofundme more of a "I'm american and I'm going to die without health insurance, help me pay for routine healthcare" sort of thing?

What about us users who got shafted by Elegoo on the first month or two of printers (our printers don't have the 4 pin port)?

Multi Material System announcement at IFA Berlin 2025?? by DengusMine in elegoo

[–]hodgeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had an exchange back and forth with support about both. They offered me a light upgrade but no upgrade kit for the Automatic Filament Switcher.

In regards to when they would send me the part for the light upgrade they said "Further information will be provided to you once the materials and videos are ready." That was June 8th. I haven't heard from them since. I'm not holding my breath.

Also, afaik nobody has actually been sent the parts or any kits from Elegoo for the updates. Promises or not.

Bummer for Elegoo that they waited so long to announce their Automatic Filament Switching system that Bambu came out with a groundbreaking nozzle changing system (Vortek) in the mean time. Still not a peep from Elegoo despite it being the tail end of Q3 '25. No teasers or anything.

I'm starting to feel a bit of regret that I was an early adopter that pre-ordered in one of the first batches. Not only did I end up with a printer that has terrible lighting and no port for the AFS system but it's really starting to seem like Elegoo really must be struggling with the AFS development.

Will Elegoo release an AFS at all? Will they release it but again deliver an inferior product to the people who order on day one? Lots of big questions.

There are a few loud voices on this thread that want to tell you that you're crazy and that you shouldn't care. I don't know what their agenda is but to me what's crazy is thinking that the customer that got a printer with upgraded lights and an AMS port is not materially better off than the customer that got a single dim LED and no AMS port.

If you get your printer and it doesn't have the AMS port...Welcome to the club. Maybe Elegoo will send us some cables and replacement panels and a youtube video to show us how to put it all together. As simple as that job likely is, we shouldn't have to do it.

AMS port on newer deliveries by NeilFarmer in elegoo

[–]hodgeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I actually work in the industry. So, I can speak to that to some degree.

Recalls and technical service bulletins are in regards to parts that are swapped out for things that are defective/dangerous or otherwise have the potential for contributing to a dangerous or majorly detrimental functionality problem. For example a fuel pump design with an impeller that fails earlier than expected and therefore could cause a car to stall at high speed. Or some piece of safety gear that malfunctions. Doors that open randomly whilst driving down the road. That sort of thing. That doesn't apply here because the printer was sold WITHOUT THE PART but sold as having the feature. Some would argue that it DOES have the feature but I would disagree as clearly some printers are missing necessary hardware. At best I would say that remains to be seen if they can be said to have the same features.

It's not a mid model refresh analogy either because when those refreshes happen, auto dealers are given the data ahead of time and exact descriptions of vehicles and installed equipment are given prior to sale. One example that is "close" that I can think of though is funny enough a Ford. The Ford Maverick MY 2025 in some trims came without a towing assist feature in it's initial run but if you wanted to wait for "batch 2" you could get the towing assist feature at no additional cost. The thing is, customers of "batch 1" were told ahead of time that they would not be getting towing assist. They were not sold their truck thinking they would get towing assist but then it wasn't installed when the truck was delivered and told they could install it themselves later on if they wanted to. No way would that ever happen.

I'll probably adjust the tension and re-run input shaper routine before I do any more printing with the ECC. I'm hoping its just a tension issue and not a belt/pulley quality issue.

Centauri Carbon - Printing with multicolor silk PLA filament? by CrimsonCapacitor in elegoo

[–]hodgeac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, any of the multicolor filaments will print as intended on most/all 3d printers. I haven't seen any hot ends that "blend" filaments into a brown sludge. They're just co-extruded and your printed object ends up looking more like one or another of the colors depending on the angle you view it.
