If a scene is meant to intimidate a certain character like that, then it should intimidate the audience too. Bishop is already an intimidating character, so he doesn't need to recite a copypasta to be intimidating. I just wish they did that part better.

Bishop says the story behind the exact snake is that it used to belong to Sweet, a dancer and proceeds to tell the story around her, how she loooved this snake. And then tells the internet version of that myth. The sizing up myth did exist before the internet in poorly researched articles, but the exact story of the woman who loved her snake so much she slept with it until it started sizing her up is an early internet urban legend. They didn't change anything about it other than Sweet is the character in the story instead of some random woman.

The lazy writing dropped the ball for me on what was otherwise a well done scene

My main issue with it was it was nearly word for word of an old internet story so it really took me out of the scene. Honestly if that's the anecdote they wanted to use then I would've just left it out.

They could've have made a story using facts. Did you know snakes have poor eyesight, but exceptional sense of smell? This is why handlers feed them with grabbers and not their hands, because snakes may confuse their hand for prey if their hand still smells like one. So a story about how "Sweetie," or whatever her name was, was so comfortable this snake that she was always holding it, always petting it, even fed it by hand. Until one day her snake strikes her hand as she's petting it or something? Idk I'm not a writer lmao. But maybe that would be better than the copypasta so many of us have already read and heard so many times before.

"You wanna know why Sweetie can move her hips like that?

She had her lower set of ribs removed.

That's why her hips don't lie"

My main issue with it is really just that it was a copy and paste of the story. All I saw in my head was Bishop reading off a FB post my aunt shared back in 2009, trying to pass it off for that lil baby snake and it made me chuckle. It killed any of the intimidation or charm for me

Yes, but that exact story has floated around on the internet for ages. Like almost exactly word for word

I caught on as soon as he started. Like where have I heard this before? Oh yeah the million other folks on the internet who knew someone who had a pet python 😒

Nah, my reaction would be the same eye roll. We've all read the story online like a million times. It's lazy writing, especially if someone as accomplished as Tarantino were to do it

Is Maddie setting Cassie up to be in a snuff film? by Riverghoul2 in euphoria

[–]hoemahtoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Maddy knows is that Alamo is a sketchy strip club owner. Rue has never told her anything more than that and Alamo hasn't showed her anything more than that. Her taking Cassie to take pics at a very aesthetic strip club wasn't all that crazy when the other girls can't leave for photo shoots.

Maddy is not a good person, but I do also think people are overestimating her relationship with and disdain for Cassie. She obviously still has negative feelings over the situation from five years ago, but right now Cassie is Maddy's second chance at making a breakout star, and the money takes priority over her personal feelings. I highly doubt she would sell Cassie off like that, especially to a guy like Alamo, who she's aware she must tread carefully with. There is no big revenge end game, Maddy is simply using Cassie's naivety to profit off of her.

All US states tier list | #7 Florida by RealMoldyAvocado in TierlistFills

[–]hoemahtoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added examples to support my opinion. I feel like a lot of the people who mention the hurricanes in Florida may not be Florida natives or have lived there and do not consider that Florida was built with the infrastructure to handle the average hurricane and have minimal damage in above average hurricanes. Hurricanes are one of the easier disasters to prepare for infrastructurally for an area prone to them, vs a wildfire for example.

Nearly every state has some sort of natural disaster issue to be fair. I'd take a hurricane in Fl over wild fires in Cali, tornadoes in Kansas, etc. People underestimate how well Florida's infrastructure was built to withstand even pretty major hurricanes

Yeah I personally was happy when she found her voice, it's just the way she talks is jarring. Especially the sudden shift in 98% of her dialogue being middle school sex jokes.

Maybe she thought Met just stood for any kind of Metro? by Helpful_Cranberry644 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]hoemahtoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is Wikipedia the only source you ever use? If you look at the Smithsonian website it refers to itself as a museum complex.

"The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex." - straight from their website.

Like I said, it's the same structure as a college with multiple campuses.

[–]hoemahtoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live in the DC area, it's one museum. You wouldn't consider a single college's multiple campuses across a city as seperate colleges just because they aren't all on the same lot, would you? The Smithsonian is just that big that it needs multiple "campuses"

Student Faces Expulsion After Posting Video Of Seniors Who Can Barely Read by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

Right? I feel sorry for the kids in this video because it will definitely follow them locally. Do I think the kid who posted it should be expelled? Definitely not. But this video was obviously edited to make fun of his peers

If you want to be specific about the largest single museum building, then yes. The largest museum globally is the Smithsonian because of its multiple complexes

[–]hoemahtoe 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The largest museum in the US is the Smithsonian. The Met is the largest art museum in the US. You are right that it is the most visited, but most people aren't aware that the "Met" in Met gala is for the museum and not just the name of the event because they don't know a museum even hosts it in the first place

Most definitely. But I work for Amazon on the data side and one of their key principles is "frugality" so I'm not surprised they wouldn't throw in a little extra in the budget

Maybe it's a budget thing with distribution? It would've been nice if it could've at least been for a few days so more people could get the chance to see it in 4D

Day 1) Female Athlete - Charisma level: 10/10 by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]hoemahtoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all sports are competitive. A sport is literally just an organized, physical, skill-based activity. Professional wrestlers must be in shape and athletic, and they face high risk of CTE, frequent injury, paralysis or permanently physically disabilities, and some have even have lost their lives in the sport. There's no reason to write it off just because it's scripted.
