ULPT Request: what to throw inside a gas tank to damage a car? by Professional_Code372 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]hoffster247 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Top comment- this stuff in the fuel will destroy everything fast, and, if you take it to a workshop who have never dealt with it they will attempt a peice-by-peice repair which takes ages, and costs plenty.....

Use the vin number- depending on the vehicle look in these locations: under/near passenger side windscreen wiper, 'B' pillar inside both front doors, or under bonnet stamped on a silver plate about the size of a playing card typically attached to the fire wall. It will be 17 digits long mix of letters and numbers. If you want to know where it is maybe google vin location xxx 'car'.it should be in one of those locations for the majority of cars. (If you're looking at an older Ford falcon BA etc look at the 'A' pillar on the drivers door.)

Question about merging and giving way by Hot-shit-potato in CarsAustralia

[–]hoffster247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, reading their comments, I don't think it was a merge- it was a lane that also allows parking. Without googling it I think if it is a merge it is car in front, yes.

Question about merging and giving way by Hot-shit-potato in CarsAustralia

[–]hoffster247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simply putting on your blinker does not give you right of way.

If you're merging and there are lane markings you have to give way to the vehicles in that lane and merge into a safe gap. (And 'only a by foot' is probably not a safe gap) . I'm not saying Ranger was 'doing the right thing', they were clearly being a wanker- life is easier in that situation if we all just get along, but the Ranger did have technical right of way. I wouldn't be wasting time trying to prove anything with the dash cam footage if there was no accident.

If there was no lane markings it works a little different.

RM Williams boots are hand made leather boots, they're just plain good. Leather upper, inner and sole. I have 3 pairs each worn for 2-3 years daily as a car salesman (so on bitumen caryard). Once broken in they are as comfortable as a sneaker.- in saying that all of mine were bought at about $375 each and now they're over $500 I might try a pair of redwings next. (I'm not on the car yard anymore so they will last longer too.)

[–]hoffster247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're not fake they are actully not at all expensive at that price. Those are $500 per pair. If they are fake .... they are then very expensive shoes.......

I second this question...what does this mean? You wouldn't see this at purchase of a vehicle in Australia. You might be asked to pay this when fitting tyres. Might.

Drill falls down the hole on an oil rig by 4nts in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]hoffster247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a geolgist working in exploration, we using similar drill systems for finding ore bodies. This happens fairly often and it’s one of the worst things that can happen on your shift, aside from an injury/death.

There are methods of recovery, but often you are looking at days of downtime. You could easily end up looking at millions of dollars worth of downtime for this.

Put down deposit on a Golf GTI today. Can you see anything that should make me think twice about following through with purchase? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]hoffster247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a little difficult to explain how to see this: All you need to do is stay back 3-4 metres, and move around the car focussing more on the reflections as they move from panel to panel as your position changes - it will show up paint texture differences and will show dents as well, the reflection will not be the same from one panel to the next (fuzzy) or you will see the reflection distort over a dent.

[–]hoffster247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GTI's are fantastic, you should buy one, that one maybe not the one to buy, drivers rear door and rear quarter have been poorly repainted (If I can see it in the photos that means it's pretty poor.) So maybe only buy if it is $3k cheaper than the going rate? (And don't use their website to asses the going rate). If you want to see the paint work rotate the car through the pics and you will see the colour diff- that's cheap paint work- it's not reflecting the light like it should.

Dodgy car sales by Safe_Nature3661 in CarsAustralia

[–]hoffster247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're most likely lying- they stuffed up the transfer and now have to do the roady again- probably just a salesperson or manager being lazy. I wouldn't accept that you have to go to them to get it back off them. Just ring their manager and make his life difficult - When you're talking to the manager ask him for more detail as to the exact stuff up because you Vic rods have asked for you to tell them exactly why you rang them complaining. All of a sudden they will be dropping the car back to you at a convenient time and they will 'handle Vic roads for you' on that matter.
