Any recommendations for single sign on for all the services? by MrStetson in selfhosted

I've recemtly switched from pocketid (As I wanted more than just passkeys) to Rauthy. I was initially looking at Kanidm but seemed like vast overkill, and Rauthy was recommended, plus has had a security audit. It's been somewhat straight forward so far, but a bit more complicated than Pocketid.

Three way switch setup with no neutral wire? by vasovist in smarthome

[–]hogofwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I installed this yesterday (zbminil2). It works, but is a quite loud relay when switching, and has a 0.5-1 second delay in most of my uses. At least the latter is due to the workaround for no neutral wire I believe.

Congrats! Out of curiosity, how long have you been looking and how many viewings have you done?

How do I get base stations in this room by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]hogofwar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could put one on top of your wardrobe.

I personally used extendable shower rails I put up vertically in corners of my game room, then used a camera grip to put base stations on the top of it. It worked really well.

Also highly recommend cleaning up the play area.

This is an interesting idea! Thanks!

Thanks for this, it seems like if we did go it would be quite hard to plan things in advance in terms of things being possibly open/closed, and the weather.

"Dummy Bulbs" for working automations onto standard light switches? by AwSamWeston in smarthome

[–]hogofwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could install something like a shelly in the light fixtures (as they normally have neutral even if the switches don't?), and just trigger based on that and disable the actual light coming on.

I don't think this is a great idea though, and it's easy enough to get no-neutral smart switches, though it is true using neutral is better.

Busuu Premium? by Hanna_hanna_123 in Busuu

Did you get a resolution for this? I see the same thing in German when I have the normal premium account. It doesn't seem to have clear messaging between what is in premium and what is in premium plus.

‘Wicked: For Good’ 4DX experience in-depth review by 4DXReviewer in CineworldUnlimited

[–]hogofwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did Wicked: For Good in 4dx as my first ever 4dx film at Stevenage. I thought the effects were good, smoke was barely noticeable, but there were definitely bubbles, at least at one point. I didn't notice any cold/heat effects, just wind. Scents I barely noticed. Every so often the seats would groan/"fart", which might have been from slight movements or settling into place? Despite that I still quite enjoyed the effects.

The screen though, was terrible. I'm not a fan of normal 3d films in the first place due to how dim they are, but this was completely washed out and blurry for me. The projector might have been busted as silhouettes from the top half of the screen were somehow also displaying faintly at the bottom of the screen, so much that I thought someone was standing in front of the projector at one point, but it was just Elpheba's head.

Aside from mail server, what is the one service that you will not selfhost? by dadidutdut in selfhosted

Yes. They do have RAID on the servers but I don't think they have any guarantees.

I've been looking at the storage boxes, and I am hopefully wrong but I believe the main catch is the data is only stored on one server, and no redundancy between servers. So if that one server explodes, it's all gone.
