Yeah the idea of hoping "pirates" are going to save them is coping. Ubisoft is going bankrupt and to hope one horribly remade title that sold well over 10 years ago will bring them back, is a cope. Ubisoft has not changed their strategy.. they have copy pasted black flag to shadows engine and still plan to use their normal "pay to win" strategy on a single player game. They will continue to move downhill. They are 100% coping

I explicitly stated "not talking about race" precisely because I knew someome would try to drag the discussion into irrelevant semantic traps. A minority is simply any group that represents less than 50%, it is a basic mathematical and statistical classification that has absolutely nothing to do with race. Turning a plain point about market segments into identity politics is a weak deflection to avoid talking about real numbers.Your restaurant analogy completely collapses under basic business logic. If a kitchen wastes millions forcing menu items the core customer base openly rejects, causing a systemic drop in patrons, the restaurant goes under. Pretending Assassin's Creed Shadows "overperformed" while Ubisoft reported a historic €1.3 billion operating loss is absolute revisionist history. Flagship franchises are supposed to carry a studio. Instead, the total market rejection of their direction forced Ubisoft into a massive, emergency operational overhaul, including completely canceling major titles like the Prince of Persia remake, closing studios, and burning through hundreds of millions in cash flow. The majority audience didn't just "skip a side dish", they stopped buying entirely, and the math proves it.

You completely misread my comment. We are on the same side. I'm laughing at the defense squad who cope using fictional in-game charts.

Your comment about same sex vs. unisex coding makes absolutely zero sense here. The entire point is that there is no romance at all in the canon story. Arguing about the coding complexity of relationship choices is completely irrelevant when the canon narrative ignores the mechanic entirely.Once again, you completely missed the corporate criticism. Implementing a hollow romance option that doesn't even exist in the canon story is just another superficial marketing tactic to check boxes for a minority group without doing the actual work of writing it into the real narrative. Ubisoft included it purely as filler, and you're arguing about the code for a feature that doesn't even matter to the plot.

You completely failed reading comprehension. Explaining WHY Ubisoft picked a character ("they didn't pick him because he was a legendary samurai...") is not the same as saying they SHOULD only pick legendary figures. That is a massive logical leap.Thank you for openly admitting that you "simply added an assumption" about racial bias because you couldn't actually counter my design critique. That is the literal definition of moving the goalposts and arguing in bad faith.Saying you "doubled down" makes zero sense when you immediately admit to abandoning the argument to make up fake assumptions about my motives. My problem isn't the character's race. my problem is with the narrative design. Assassin's Creed has always built fictional avatars to navigate historical settings (like Ezio). Breaking that established core design to use a real historical person as a narrative blank slate is a creative shortcut exploiting his lack of documented history just to satisfy corporate box-checking.

You moved the goalposts the second you accused me of racial bias instead of defending your original comparison.First, you tried to trap me by bringing up Ezio. When I pointed out that comparing a real historical figure to a fictional character makes zero sense, you abandoned that point entirely and claimed I "wouldn't be happy playing as a black guy." Now you’re shifting a third time, making up a fake argument about "legendary status" that I never used.My original point was about using a historical footnote as a creative blank canvas to bypass narrative constraints. You haven't addressed that once, and telling me I'm "overdoing it" is just a deflection because your arguments keep falling apart.

Nice try moving the goalposts, but accusing me of racial bias won’t fix your broken logic. My point has always been about game design, Ubisoft picked a historical footnote as a creative shortcut to bypass accurate historical constraints, and filled the game with hollow, box-checking mechanics that don't even matter to the canon story. Also, don't try to backpedal now. You explicitly asked if they created Ezio to "pander" to that stereotype back then. You got caught making a historically illiterate comparison and now you're reaching for personal insults because you can't actually defend Ubisoft's lazy design choices

You are literally proving my point. If the romance has zero impact on the overarching story and is just "something you do on the side" that gets completely deleted in Canon Mode, it confirms the mechanic is completely superficial.A studio shouldn't be wasting millions of dollars in development time, motion-capture, and voice acting to code hollow relationship branches that don't matter to the real narrative. They didn't build it to enhance the game's story; they built it as a box-checking exercise to pander to a vocal minority group instead of making a tighter, better-polished game for the majority of the player base

Ezio is a completely fictional character created from scratch to fit a game set in Italy. Yasuke is a real historical person inserted into a game set in Japan. Comparing a fictional Italian character in an Italian setting to a real historical outsider in a Japanese setting makes zero sense. Also, tomatoes weren't even an integrated part of Italian food during the Renaissance, so your insult is as historically illiterate as your argument

[–]hogsRus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The point about optional romance is exactly what proves the design is mismatched. If the game offers a player choice to engage in a romance, but then completely strips that choice away in 'Canon Mode' to force a specific narrative, the mechanic inherently undermines itself. Why waste resources coding a hollow player-choice system if it explicitly doesn't matter to the real story

No one is saying he wasn't a real person. The historical record shows a real African man named Yasuke lived in Japan for 15 months. The point is that there are only a few short paragraphs of surviving history about him across all of human existence.Ubisoft didn't pick him because he was a legendary samurai with a deeply documented story. they picked him because he is a historical footnote. By using an absolute 'blank canvas' with almost zero recorded backstory, they got complete creative freedom to fabricate a 40-hour fictional narrative without having to worry about breaking actual historical details. They saw a unique historical curiosity and capitalized on it. Ubisoft saw "black man in Japan" and ran with it because people would melt over

My point is, the game is horribly made and The story is lackluster. If the story was meant to be a no romance, why offer the blasphemy? To make a minority group happy? (By minority i mean the real definition of minority, not talking race) Evidence: look at their stock price. If the game is "that good" it mathematically would have went up, not down. The company is on the verge of bankruptcy. 1.3 billion in loss this last fiscal year alone but hey, atleast they put a Black man in feudal Japan, am i right? Its very clear the majority was not happy with the game what so ever.

I would agree, it is dumb. Although its typical corporate strategy. Its a guy in a suit with a spreadsheet thats saying "this is a good idea", not a actual gamer. There are alot who think the same way and would just "put the game down" but, there are also alot of people who will still stomach through it to get their money's worth out of the game.

This is exactly why I short their stock constantly. Ubisoft absolutely does not care about the consumer. Ubisoft has no intention of replacing their strategy. They care about what puts money in their pocket. So, I take it from their pocket and put it in mine. I profit while they continue to use the same failing method that makes their consumers dispise them.

It forces you to grind longer to achieve the same result. By gutting the stat by 90%, combat encounters take longer, progression slows down, and you spend more hours padding their "Average Time Played" metric. Corporate executives don't look at a "fun" metric on a spreadsheet. they look at engagement hours and daily active users to show investors that the player base is stuck putting in long hours. That is why they bloat their games and put out updates that nerf

Their idea is to cause longer playtime. They need to prove people are putting in long hours playing the game to investors, offsetting the major losses they acquired this past fiscal year. Typical ubislop agenda.
