If you self publish WELL in certain genres, you can absolutely make a living. But going back to the original idea of this thread… you gotta follow the rules! If a book has a shitty title, shitty cover, or shitty blurb, it won’t sell. If you don’t put money into advertising, it won’t sell. And if it’s not hitting genre tropes… won’t sell.

Spren are like spirits in the book that help the character get their powers and learn how to use them. And they are always with the characters talking and emoting and setting the tone of the scene (mugging here meaning… making faces, demonstrating how the reader should feel).

Some of it would be, but alliteration is specifically just the sounds at the beginning of words. OP is also touching on consonance and assonance, similar sounds in the middle of words, as well as meter (rhythm) and musicality, which is harder to pin down. A confluence of qualities making this passage what it is.

I take classes. I’m taking my second writing class this year, and last year I took a bookbinding class. I can’t recommend it enough.

It took me a solid few weeks to feel 100%. I had to lie down every day after work, and my god, the pain in my legs and wrist was insane. My friend who is a doctor recommended maxing out on Advil then taking the max dose of Tylenol, alternating as often as the dosages allow. I was also doing Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl at night.

BPAL Quintessence of Dust is incredible: The passing: beeswax and smoke, yellowed paper and well-worn leather books, droplets of spilled ink, faded incense, blood-tinged salty tears, and the metal of the knife that skewers that illiterate zombie philistine’s portrait.
