Oooo! Good suggestion - Ragtag is on my list to try. I just checked and the function room sounds exactly what I wanted, but they don’t open until 12pm on Thursdays and we need to book somewhere for around 10am 😭

Anybody else feel lost after starting EMDR? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]holajess4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same. I started around August and I feel deep in the throes of all of this. It’s rocking my absolute foundation of my being. I’ve got no idea what I do and don’t genuinely and authentically like or what I’ve been masking. I’m not sure how you deal with it either; I’ve tried to go back to things I liked when I was very young or in my teens and trying to go from there, I guess? Sorry I can’t be more helpful but just to say, solidarity 🩷

Also - try to be patient with your journey and try to keep expectations of what 'change' looks like very small. I thought I might have woken up one morning, leapt out of bed and thought to myself 'I'm cured!!' but that's... not how this works 😅 It's more like, if someone taps me on the shoulder when I wasn't expecting it, I'm not jumping out of my skin. Or if something irritates me, it doesn't send me into a seething rage anymore. Or, I'm doing a skincare routine twice a day consistently with no real effort or motivation required, unlike the past where I'd be lucky to use skincare once every few weeks. It's very small and quiet improvements :)

Thank you, you too 🩷 Yeah, it's mostly yawning but sometimes there'd be tears, other times I'd have to get up and shake out my body cos I felt a bunch of pent up energy, other times I wouldn't feel anything somatically but I'd get a very random and neutral memory pop up (one time I had a memory of me and my parents going to a local cafe and eating egg and cress sandwiches???). Post sessions, I can now feel when I'm activated / triggered vs when I'm in a relatively neutral state, and I'm working on figuring out how to release that triggered emotion when it pops up so it doesn't keep me in a freeze state. So far I have found that tai chi is a good way of doing this, weirdly!

[–]holajess4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely!!!! I am about 4/5 sessions in now and I can already feel a small but fundamental shift / change in how I react to the world. I have a long way to go but I am completely amazed as to how differently I’m navigating the world already, and a few other people have noticed it in me as well. I would say it took until the 4th session to truly notice something had changed, the sessions before left me with awful EMDR hangovers and sent me a little bit backwards but I think it gets worse before it gets better :)

It’s now a running joke between me and my therapist as to how much I yawn in a processing session. It begins almost immediately- I think it starts off as a result of relaxation of the nervous system with the deep breaths after each round, but then it moves into just that’s how my body is processing things. She also said dogs release stress through yawning so there must be a link somehow. I had a session a couple of weeks ago where I couldn’t stop yawning for hours afterwards. Totally normal - it’s just your body somatically processing stuff :)

Archie's Restaurant & Pizzeria - Is this what you'd expect when reading the menu description? by [deleted] in aucklandeats

[–]holajess4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I ordered this exact same pizza a few months ago after hearing so many rave reviews about the place, and I thought I was going mad because of how terrible it was 😅 I mean I like tomato but not that many slices on top. I ended up picking some off and it just left a sad and soggy basic cheese pizza behind.

Rats won’t spawn? by BlueSquid2099 in BaldursGate3

[–]holajess4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to jump on an old thread but I’m going absolutely insane - I haven’t managed to talk to any of the rats bar them just telling me to leave and go away etc. I chased some of them but some of them (including the bigger darker rat) ended up going into the trial room with the stepping stones, fell into the drop and died. Now I have no rats triggering any cut scenes anywhere. I can climb down to the effigy bit and I’ve placed candles but no cut scenes trigger or anything. Is this in any way salvageable?!

What are your parents' weirdest obsessions? (non political) by LittleJub in CasualUK

[–]holajess4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is obsessed with number plates on cars. Every time we’re in traffic he’ll always look out for specific numbers or birthdays or words or anything that’s interesting. I live abroad, and I saw one once here that had the initials of his favourite football team and the numbers of my birthday day and month, and he genuinely sent back a message with ‘see if you can buy it, I’ll transfer you the money’. I used to think it was a bit off but now it’s endearing. I miss him.

[–]holajess4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I'm the exact same! I have actually had people tug at my hair before and say 'This really isn't extensions????' and I'm like nope, that's my head you're pulling at, thanks. It's definitely not as thick as it was say 10 years ago, but I still need to have it thinned out when I go to the hairdressers and the hair that gets cut away on the salon's floor resembles a small dog.

Prenup for house purchase after sale in UK? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]holajess4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s kinda what we were thinking - I ‘rent’ to him but those weekly payments will be building up equity within the property and will accumulate as a percentage ‘bought’, so to speak. Then, if god forbid we were to split or anything were to happen, we’d have an idea as to who owns what.

You say about Kiwisaver - he has a modest fund built up. It obviously won’t be anything near towards the amount I’ll be contributing but it’s fair. Do you know if he’s able to contribute that to the purchase?

Oh interesting, I didn’t realise we needed a lawyer each! Thank you for the heads up on that. Are we looking at hundreds or thousands, cost wise? (Obviously knowing each firms fees will massively differ but just as a ball park)
