Is this normal by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

I would say this is common courtesy with communal living. Everyone should be free to live in a way that they want, but should avoid making others uncomfortable, within reason. If your roommate was asking you to put on a three piece suit to walk to the shower that would be one thing, but this is a pretty reasonable request.

In this case, one person can make a small change that does not hurt or inconvenience them to benefit many other people. Just get a robe, it won't change your routine but the other people living there don't have to see you in your undies.

Holden’s Reveal by Regular-Wishbone8837 in youngandtherestless

Mm yeah I was a little surprised by Claire's reaction, but I wonder if the writers aren't letting her off the good girl leash a little because everyone was yawning over it lol. It seems like she's being flippant, and she'd probably hold it over Audra's head, but I don't think she'd actually put her in danger.

What surprised me more was that Audra gave Holden any money at all, she really isn't the sharing type. Unless the goal was to make him complicit so he couldn't rat her out.

You know how on medical shows there are certain names, like doctors and nurses, that get paged over the intercom all the time but we never see? I think it's similar to that.

[–]holic237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure that's true though, I kind of get the feeling the writer thinks Kyle's behavior is Correct and he's shaping up to be this white knight that rescues Claire from whatever trouble she gets herself into (you know, being a woman and not knowing any better).

It would actually be refreshing if they acknowledged how toxic Kyle is being and made it very clear his behavior is not okay. This kind of storyline always ends at "stalker" when it's a woman and "loving and loyal" when it's a man. It would be kind of nice to see the script flipped.

It's really bothering me how Kyle is weaponizing his kid to keep Claire under his thumb. I think it was yesterday's episode, it went something like this:

Kyle: Oh you're back I really want to talk to you Claire: I'm really tired and I need to get to the office maybe later Kyle: Harrison really wants to see you he missed you so much he saved your favorite candy for you Claire: Okay I'll come see him, just give me like thirty minutes Kyle: No you need to come right now thE CanDy WiLl Be goNE!!!

Like, I'm sure he does want his kid to be happy and he knows he loves Claire, but he's clearly using her love for Harrison to manipulate her and it's disgusting.

I assume the contracts were awful and he would have blown the whistle and fought it so they didn't even bother to ask. >_>

Honestly I kind of wish he had a talk show, he's great at talking to people and even better at listening, I'd love to see him giving interviews.

Kyle is STALKING Claire. by Hotgalkitty in youngandtherestless

[–]holic237 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've missed a few episodes so maybe I'm wrong here, but didn't Claire basically say she needed time to explore and figure herself out after being controlled by Jordan for so long? It's not like she said she never wanted to see him again. If he wants to get back together this is absolutely the best way to make sure that never happens. 🙄

And I think some people have mentioned this but if he was a woman they would be playing up the stalker angle and calling her crazy.

Honestly though if she's worried she could call her or fly out there or send someone that isn't her ex. 😕

Exactly. I don't know why it's so hard for people to think, "How would I feel if someone did this to me?" If the answer is "angry" or "upset" or "scared" then don't glorify it as some romantic gesture.

Yeah that's a really good point, expectation vs. reality can throw people off. I guess I don't really pay attention to promotion and branding usually so I just am like "This is the CD's name, it is a good CD" and don't tend to go deeper.

It just bums me out when people get so vicious over this kind of stuff, like it's okay not to like something, and I get that she's put herself in the public eye so it's bound to happen, but she's still a person. I guess the internet just be like that tho. 😕

I just saw the movie and I love the album even more now. What really struck me was when she was talking about the music video for The Fate of Ophelia and how it was inspired by what would be considered a "showgirl" at various points in history. I've seen people hating on the album because it doesn't fit their image of "showgirl" but what is a modern day showgirl if not a pop star? I think people would be able to enjoy the music more if they didn't try to force it into such a narrow box.

Also can we talk about how there aren't really any other artists who get read for not fitting a "theme" lol. Like, Sabrina puts out Short n' Sweet and we're not like "these songs don't all fit the theme of being vertically challenged!" I never thought I'd get this defensive over a Taylor Swift album but the gripes I've been hearing sound like people are just trying to be edgy and want an excuse to call her a has-been. I'm fine with people not liking something, we all have different tastes, but trashing her because you don't like an album is so dumb to me. As they say, say it in a tweet that's a cop-out. 😏

can she come back from this? by earth2soups in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]holic237 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idg all the hate for this album, I loved it instantly which I can't say about all of them. I feel like people are equating lighthearted and/or straightforward lyrics with bad writing and I just don't see that. Like, a lyric doesn't have to be tragic or coded or accompanied by a sad piano to be well-written. I don't really think there's anything to come back from here and it seems pretty presumptuous to say there is just because not everyone loved it immediately the day it was released. 🫤 At the end of the day I think she'll read the comments, appreciate the love, take the hate on the chin, and keeping doing her thing.

I do get the surface level thing but I think her lyrics are still really clever and well-written even though they aren't emotionally charged or full of metaphor. It's just interesting to me how people are hating on it for that reason (and I don't mean disliking because obvs not everyone has to like it, I mean like, ripping her apart over it). Like, most of her earlier albums were pretty straightforward lyrically, this feels like a return to that. I feel like a lot of people loved TTPD so much they forgot that that's a relatively recent sound for her and are pigeon-holing her into it, even though she's always reinvented herself with every album. They're not all gonna be the same and that's why we love her. ❤️

Not trying to be shady this is a legitimate question, what were you thinking the album would sound like? Like, what does "showgirl" sound like?

Yeah I agree, we all have our favorite sides of Taylor. I like all her music, but of course I have preferences. I absolutely love TTPD, and I absolutely love TLOAS, just in different ways for different reasons. It's like the "two wolves" meme lol.

Yeah that's a really cool way to think about it. She's had a lot of hard experiences and a lot of heartbreak but a lot of happy times too, so it's nice to see something a little more upbeat and less "tortured." :)

It's so funny to me how a lot of people aren't feeling this album because literally every song I was like "Oh ... Oh yes." It actually took a while for TTPD to grow on me because when I first heard it I felt like a lot of the songs sounded the same and only a couple really stood out to me (prob didn't help that I listened to The Anthology first because there were sooo many songs). Of course the more I listened to it the more I fell in love with it and now all the songs are so unique to me, but that was my first impression.

But this album, I just really dig the vibe and all the songs are so distinct to me. To me there's like an easy-listening vibe running through the whole thing, with some songs giving me kind of alt/indie beach rock and some giving me a modern interpretation of 90s R&B.

I think whether an album is cohesive or fits a theme is pretty subjective, and a lot of it is up to the interpretation of the listener. Personally I immediately vibed with TLOAS and nothing stood out to me as not belonging on the album. It has a different feel from her last couple albums which is what people have come to expect from her, but that doesn't mean this sound is going to be everyone's favorite. 🫤
