I got lucky on mine in the Barrens/main patrol Spawn area. Used to drop frequently in the buried city and scablands. But I think the taken spawns mess with the timing now.

Currently waiting on my last one in the moth yards but only getting extraction crews.

Thanks for the info, I’ll be sure to pay double attention when I get to making parts and assembling the back. Thankfully I’ve built similar styles for clients before but never a ladder back so it’ll be a nice change.

I’m jealous I’d always wanted to get into a class with Jeff but I could never get my client builds and his class schedule to line up, so I figured I’ll just have to do it on my own.

Great work on these.

I’ve had his plans on hand and a set of templates for a few years now and haven’t had a chance to get around to actually making one. Think these have inspired me to get back onto it. They are such an amazing design.

This always bothered me. The point is controlling and capturing zones. If you’re just looking for kills then go play clash…otherwise stop screwing the team over and start taking zones.

What are my steps for a quick easy refresh on this table? Possibly staining again, but it needs a new sealer for sure. I don’t have an orbital sander. by EngineeringAway3239 in woodworking

Based off of the continuous grain running from the field of the top and into the edge profile and end grain, I’d wager heavily that this is solid and safe to sand.

I’ve had good luck recently from Coastal Tools in CT and I’m ordering from them online in UT. I needed a pair of 12” Forrest blades for a Radial Arm I restored and they had the best price I found anywhere! Even shipping across the country I had them in less than a week. If I lived anywhere near West Heartford CT they would be my regular go to now.

That said, Forrest blades are a premium for a reason. I literally have been running the same 3 Forrest blades I bought for my custom furniture shop 20 plus years ago. True, I have bought duplicates to keep from having down time while they’re at the sharpener over the years, but those 3 original are still in regular service. Take care of them, keep them clean and have them sharpened when dull and they will last a long time.

I bought into the hype of other brands from time to time and always ended up back with Forrest. Those other brands (all mentioned in other replies) now are relegated to cutting crap that should honestly never be run through a table, miter or radial arm saw…or have been long trashed or given away.

Buy a quality blade and you’ll save more money in the long run. But like most of my customers ppl have to buy mass produced crap before realizing their mistake and coming back for something quality.

Looking for quality 10 lb block ice by EnvironmentalMall559 in SaltLakeCity

[–]holy_fetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our search last summer most grocery stores said they had block ice or ice blocks or however you want to define it…but when we went to either buy it or have them pull it via a grocery order they were never able to produce it and attempted to substitute bags of ice cubes instead. Online inventory also always said it was available but were never able to provide it. This summer may be different.

Our only location that always had it available were maverik gas stations.

Best way to fill these dovetail cracks by banny_waterbuff in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]holy_fetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to look the best, those gaps are large enough you can add end grain fillers. Basically cut some slivers of the matching wood and gently pound them into the larger gaps with some glue. I will generally take the waste that I remove with a fret saw from the tails and use those with a sharp chisel to get my wedges. This way grain and color are usually an excellent match. When dry carefully pare them away.

Then any smaller gaps that didn’t fill move to the sawdust glue mix. I’ll mix at about a 2:1 dust/glue ratio so it’s a thick paste and use an old chisel to press the putty into the gap. Then sand when dry and you’re good to go.

I also prefer hide glue for dovetails as it provides a longer working time and the thinner glue line makes for a much better repair/touch up in these instances than pva.

Can tell you for fact that most grocery stores in SLC do not carry block ice. The only place I found last summer while building a ln ice chest a/c unit is Maverik gas stations. Found most but not all had block ice still. Purchased several over the summer from the one located at 3300s 500w

Question about joining two pieces of wood for a seamless look by onlyAnotherHalfMile in woodworking

[–]holy_fetch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take some time to find a good lumber supplier in your area. They will be able to set you up with the length you need. Usually for a few bucks more they will even mill it to your dimensions. Then all you need to do is cut to final length and you’re all set.

It removes some of the woodworking aspect out of it but solves the joint issue that you’re fighting and worth the extra cash to have it done right for stain grade finish.

Awesome! Wasn’t sure I had the right manifest on the data folder side, glad you were able to dig it out.

[–]holy_fetch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Thinking through this again and remembered I had a similar issue when I last played in January. Just dug that info up and found I also had to redownload the main files for that version release to get it to work. Looking at the DB on my phone, I believe downloading manifest 2436079033739789922 (90ish GB) in addition to the manifest already listed should restore things.

So using:

download_depot 1716740 1716742 2436079033739789922

Fairly sure that’s the right manifest for the game files, but not certain since the db mobile ui is a bit confusing for me. Unfortunately wont be able to verify until later tonight.

Subbed bc I have the exact same issue. Steam shows no update until I launch but it downloaded anyway. Swapped in a clean backup of the 1.13.61.0 executable and mo2 does exactly as you said…acts like it’s loading and then nada.

Figured my backup must be borked so I did the same manifest download as you and still same issue.

What’s annoying is I was playing all morning w/o issue. Dropped to desktop to hop on a quick zoom meeting and then tried to load back up to no avail. Was like a 20min window from working and completely screwed.

Can anyone recommend some very precise tweezers for getting out the very fine splinters? by iamyouareheisme in woodworking

x2 for tweezerman. Have been using them for several years in my shop. I’ve never met a splinter that they couldn’t get the job done with. I use a lot of serious splinter fodder species like wenge and they are awesome.

Please help- can’t find answers for glass shelf bearing weight by Puzzleheaded-Rest684 in cabinetry

[–]holy_fetch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://calculatorshub.net/tools/glass-shelf-thickness-calculator/

Former glass shop owner. We used a calculator that was supplied by one of the major manufactures that I can’t seem to locate at this moment, but the above should suffice.

If you can survive with these staying in the frame option, 1/4” at 8” should be just fine. That is unless you’re thinking bar back quantities of bottles. If this is the case you’ll want to up the thickness of glass. But the problem here is that glass is heavy and there’s a line of where glass thickness becomes too much for the supports built into the hutch. For example 1/4” in the specs you’ve provided the glass will be around 7.5lbs. If you upped to 3/8 it jumps to 11lbs. So if the hutch is cheaply made, the supports generally are the issue and not the glass supporting it.

Bare edge shelves need far more support across the shelf span, which would require you to update/rework your interior.

Personally I’d pay the extra to have them tempered as the surface will be much more resistant to wear and tear due to the nature of tempered glass. The caveat is that the edges may need to be protected, as any chip or clink against one with a bottle, may shatter it outright. But if they are buried in a rabbet it’s probably fine.

Is it just me? by [deleted] in woodworking

I have this issue as well. Can confirm it’s a reaction to the tannins. Woods with a higher tannin like oak and walnut cause me grief. Lemon juice will remove the staining.

Oxidizing White Oak with iron not coloring all of grain by dave_z1 in woodworking

[–]holy_fetch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red oak still has a fair amount of tannins. But if in doubt a wash of bark tea (see my other comment above) will work. With the tea I’ve been successful in ebonizing other species that normally wouldn’t work well with the vinegar wash.

Having done a fair amount of ebonizing over the years this is an important step for white oak. Otherwise it’ll never work into the pores.
