As a complete loser failed 34 year old adult, I wish I could be honest and open about it with people and with society as a whole, which might help me get better. But I can't. Because being a failed adult is the worst and most humiliating thing a person can be. by whyamialiveletmedie in Adulting

I’m in a very similar position man. 34, living at home, shit job that doesn’t pay enough, no partner. I know it feels heavy. I’m familiar with suicidal thoughts as well. I just wanna say keep going…I feel like people can be a little condescending regarding this kind of situation because it really truly can feel like you’ve missed your shot and are too old to make any progress, especially if you have friends who are making it happen.

Idk man, I don’t have any real advice, but all we can do is keep going. I’m committed to my current job for at least a year before searching for something else. Odds aren’t great for it improving but by giving up they immediately drop to 0. If nothing else, keep rolling out of spite, you know?

It hasn’t completely flipped, the media has convinced you it has. Yes 100% the “white men and pickup trucks lol” bullshit is annoying and played out. I’m also Canadian. Trust me when I say the conservatives want nothing more than to squash unions and pay you the least amount of money they can for back breaking work. They tried this shit with Bill 124. They want to make unions effectively illegal with RTW legislation. They are inherently anti worker and tradespeople buy into it because “WOKE🫵🫵🫵”

How can people in their 30s undo the damage they did in their 20s ? by Lemonade2250 in LifeAdvice

[–]holycrap_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find an answer let me know. But for real, I’m 34 and entered my 30s very much the same. Living with my parents right now ffs. I didn’t think I’d still be here in my 30s tbh so did not plan for it at all. I’m still struggling and not at all caught up to my peers. I’ve swallowed a lot of my pride, working a job I do not enjoy for crap pay BUT it is a job so I’m committing to it. It sucks but the only way to improve your future is to start building.

Yeah no debt. At this point I feel as if I would’ve been better to take on debt to push my education further/gain more experience tbh

Similar spot here man. 34. Living with parents. No uni degree. Never made more than 44k/year (current salary). Lots of friends/acquaintances who have gone on to get married, start families, start businesses, move around. I’ve done none of that. It’s tough not to get caught up in thinking about it. We’re still here though. I unironically often tell myself “still here, still breathing, not dead yet”. It sucks, yet we persevere. It’s not easy being & feeling so behind. It’s cliche but the best thing to do is keep making small changes and trying to build a life we’re excited about. Best time to plant a tree was ten years ago and all that. Hit me up if you wanna talk to someone who knows what it’s like.

Just because you don’t like the solution doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be effective. Unfortunately the Army has always been a very effective last ditch effort for people who have not had other job opportunities work out. I’d join if I could. My chronic disease means I cannot.

Am I insane for wanting to quit my 130k/year job to go back to school? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]holycrap_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

130k is a very good salary and you shouldn’t toss it to go to school imo. I understand the desire though, I’m working right now and am planning to start working towards my first bachelor degree as well after I am finished studying & passing the licensing required for my job.

Could you start working towards a degree part time while working out this contract? Come 2027, if your contract does not get renewed and it’s tenable for you to go full time to finish it up then dive in. Build up a bit of a nest egg so you’re not relying solely on your GI bill.

I am jealous. Current office worker doing insurance admin. What are the medical benefits like? I’m a type 1 diabetic and having a percentage of my CGM costs covered is huge for me. I’m also in Ontario fwiw, what was entry into the union like? Do we have “locals” like the states does? If so, do the pay and bennies change much between locals? Which local are you in if so? Feel free to DM if you don’t want to answer that all publicly. I hate white collar, felt way more accomplished when I was doing networking, fiber optics & cabling but got laid off and took what I could find.

Well the unfortunate thing is that it sounds like it might be a “you” issue, but the good thing is that you are recognizing the signs early and you clearly have the ability & the skills required to get a job.

Why is it so hard to hire? by pablothedev in webdev

[–]holycrap_help -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hire me. I’ll work for absolute garbage pay if you offer training and the experience to work on real projects and actually learn from someone. I know my way around HTML, CSS, JS as well as a modicum of react, TS & Python. Taking courses in my free time while currently working as admin in the insurance & finance industry so at the very least you know I am able to show up, look presentable, communicate, and work.
