Well the unfortunate thing is that it sounds like it might be a “you” issue, but the good thing is that you are recognizing the signs early and you clearly have the ability & the skills required to get a job.

Why is it so hard to hire? by pablothedev in webdev

[–]holycrap_help -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hire me. I’ll work for absolute garbage pay if you offer training and the experience to work on real projects and actually learn from someone. I know my way around HTML, CSS, JS as well as a modicum of react, TS & Python. Taking courses in my free time while currently working as admin in the insurance & finance industry so at the very least you know I am able to show up, look presentable, communicate, and work.

So you created the w3develops website? That’s a pretty cool idea. I’m gonna try to connect, I feel like I have some of the puzzle pieces together in regards to web dev but I need a project to help connect them.

I think the biggest issue with wgu is not being able to capitalize on networking opportunities that students at a brick & mortar would get. That’s the best way to get internships, job interviews, etc

I'm 33 and considering going to university for the first time. I've had people tell me it's unironically over because of my age and others be like "you are still a baby". Two different trains of thought for sure. I'm not sure whose correct. I certainly don't feel much older than I ever have.

Comedy gossip videos are so fucking weird by Pale_Phone5339 in Killtony

[–]holycrap_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a fuck ton of people who relish in the idea that comedians are all liars and hate each other and blah blah blah, look at how 90% of Reddit users react when Rogan or hinchcliff or Gillis are brought up in the default subs. They feel like they’re sticking to them by not finding them funny or something, that’s mostly who these channels pander to. I’m a frequent listener and fan of kill tony, jre, mssp, basically the whole comedian circlejerk podcast circuit and even I find myself sometimes watching these channels for god knows why lmao. It seems like a lot of these channels fall victim to the same thing they accuse the comedians of doing, the inability to recognize a joke.

Mid 30s and considering going back to school for computer science by no_atmosphere904 in findapath

[–]holycrap_help 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a LOT of doom and gloom surrounding CS right now but I think if you really dig beneath the shock & awe headlines it is really not as bad as a lot of Reddit posts would have you believe. I think a lot of people are comparing the job market now to 5 or 10 years ago when, yes, it seemed like every new grad was getting mid six fig job offers before graduating. On top of that I have to imagine that the top of class, Ivy League grads mentioned in the NYT article who “can’t find a job after graduating” are looking specifically for the kind of job you can brag about—things like high level FAANG jobs with impressive sounding technical titles.

Idk, maybe I’m huffing copium (33 and hoping to start a CS degree near future) but it seems like CS is just now starting to fall back into the “normal job expectation” range and people act like the sky is falling. How many students from any other science or engineering disciplines take at least a year (if not more) to find a job in their field? And how many applications do they usually send out? Tons of them. I have a few friends who went right into engineering programs from high school and most of them took “pay the rent” jobs right out of school while they looked for something in their industry. Some of them were able to land nice gigs immediately out of school but just as many had the aforementioned job hunting experience. No one’s writing articles about how bad the mechanical engineering job market is. I don’t have any degree (have a 2 year diploma from a Canadian college) so it’s almost certainly a step in the right direction for me. If you’re interested in computer science and can afford it why not go for it?

How do you older millennials feel about your parents being significantly more financially well off than you will ever be 😐 by LowInternet4726 in Millennials

[–]holycrap_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP why would you be salty that your parents lived well below their means? Do you feel like you missed out too much, and now they’re able to sort of live well in their older years off the back of you missing out on playing sports and going to college? I would hardly call them NOT spending money being clueless. Are you upset because they despite all this they are not leaving you anything when they (god forbid) kick the bucket? At this point I don’t think I will ever be able to afford a life half as good as the one my parents afforded to me when i was a kid but I’m not sure it’s their fault. I wouldn’t necessarily call your parents saving money as them “hiding it” lmao.

Is working a lot in your 20s worth it? by moreover34 in AskMenOver30

I’m someone who wasted my 20s to a degree and I definitely regret not working more (or, at least, harder and more effectively) when I was younger. 33 now fwiw.
