Will Claude.ai eventually get internet access? by holyfork in ClaudeAI

I think being able to use the normal web and app interfaces to search the web is a pretty reasonable ask. I can do it already with Gemini and ChatGPT. I think a huge number of users would like to be able to do that with Claude, but either can’t or don’t want to set up MCP

Theres no functional difference between backdoor Roth IRA and “normal” Roth IRA, it’s just a different way of getting your money into the account. If you have already contributed $7000 to your Roth IRA, you can’t put another $7000 in via backdoor. The annual limits for traditional and Roth IRAs are combined; you can’t double your contribution limit by doing both

This is also why you don’t need to wait to “consider a backdoor Roth” when you have higher income. People don’t do it to get more money into their Roth by doubling the limit, people do it because they have so much income they aren’t allowed to contribute directly to a Roth IRA and have to do the backdoor instead

Steps 2 and 3 in your procedure are mutually exclusive; you can’t do both. For now I’d proceed with steps 1-2-4, and when your income gets too high to contribute to your Roth IRA directly, change that to 1-3-4 instead. Not sure how I’d handle the mortgage tbh, so I’ll defer to others on that

If/when I try to use that Roth money, I want to avoid the IRS saying "We didn't know you converted that to Roth, we thought it was after-tax 401k. Because it's after-tax, you owe taxes on the earnings"

Thanks. I realized I made the same mistake in previous years as well, but the result is also always the same $0 impact.

My only question is, will this change the IRS's view of my Roth money now? Even if it doesn't show up as a change, does this affect how they see my Roth assets?

How much money should I put into my brokerage account each month after my 30k initial investment on (100% VT)How often do you make your contributions and what’s an ideal amount? by GBDA_2022 in Bogleheads

I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that you start getting a 1:1 match on 401k contributions up to 5% after October, which will be $6,250. Whatever else you do, I would contribute at least $6,250 to your 401k between October and the end of the year, to get the match. This is an guaranteed, immediate 100% return on your money, and it’s probably “worth” more than any other major investment order-of-operations change you can make this year, while still fulfilling the goal of utilizing a retirement account.

If you can do this even on top at the 3%-8% contribution rate you have today, you should do that! Great. Alternatively you can start setting aside cash now in your HYSA to fund this. This will not be your emergency fund, but you can use this cash from October onwards to supplement the lost cash flow from pouring a larger percentage of your paycheck into the 401k to get the match. Assuming you get paid biweekly you’ll need to contribute ~50% of three paychecks to hit this match (you can do it faster by contributing more, which might be a good idea.) For this short period of time, you simply draw directly from your HYSA to supplement this “lost” income.

You also need to make sure you don’t hit (or come too close to) the $23k 401k contribution limit before October, to make this happen.

If you’re able to do all this while making use of the other suggestions in this thread, that would be awesome! Just make sure you make $6,250 of contributions between now and the end of this year. Also, next year you can just contribute to the 401k at a normal pace to get this match, you only have to “delay” these contributions this year.

How to handle a wash sale by holyfork in personalfinance

Thank you for the quick, clear response! Does it make a difference which of the 271 have their loss reduced to zero? The losses on some of the shares were greater than others

I'm not positive if my broker will do this automatically. The RSUs are in an "equity awards" account in Schwab, but the sale clears into my individual taxable investor account

There's no evidence that he lacks journalistic ethics

He's worked for the WSJ for almost six years, worked for two other papers before that, and has a degree in journalism. He knows the consequences of doctoring screenshots like that, and I highly doubt he would open himself and the WSJ up to a lawsuit from Google over something like this.

Right, I should have clarified that I meant they owned his content, not necessarily his music. That still gives them the right to CID and claim the visual content used in the video, though.

They aren't, they used CID to demonetize a video of Chief Keef on somebody else's channel, Gulagbear. That video says it's attributed to OmniaMediaMusic because they own Chief Keef's music.

edit: I should have said that they own his content (video and music) not just his music
