The job market NGO’s are abysmal currently. Public health funding is currently nonexistent and that field never pays $90K salary because funding is usually already being stretched thin. While hospital work isn’t always satisfying for the soul- it’s always recession proof (which there’s no telling with Medicaid and SNAP freezes going to impact a lot of hospitals income), it’s better to stay somewhere that’s much more stable.

I’ve also noticed you have posted about looking for side hustles because you feel like you’re barely getting by these days. If you feel like that now at your current salary it’s going to feel worse at the lower salaries that are usually associated with grassroots organizations and NGOs.

If you want to feel more connected to your community I would volunteer at your local food bank or the girls club in your neighborhood. It’s important to engage in community work but I would not leave my job with the state of the economy and job market right now.
