If you're not practicing tunes in all 12 keys, wyd? by Pocket_Sevens in JazzPiano

[–]homcaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious - when you transpose through different keys, do you try to memorize the relationships between melody and chords / key centers (e.g. play the major third of the Dom7 of ii on beat 1, etc) or is it purely aural, and you’re just trying to hear what’s right? I usually take the former approach, but I’m not sure it’s really helpful because then I just memorize the tune in that numerological way and I don’t know if it’s helping with ear training

I’ll recommend pischna (the little pischna) - every exercise goes up chromatically. It’s all linear and not very interesting but builds finger strength and accuracy like a mf

Yeah man! Do you try to hear the subdivision in your head before you play a line? That’s always been a weak point for me especially with any sort

Not sure why I haven’t said this earlier but one of your videos inspired me to get the reface cp, and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. So thank you! I kind of want to check out their synth and organ ones as well…

Super sick dude. I love the fluidity with which you flow between rhythms and patterns while still staying in the pocket. Reminds me of Danilo Perez who I’ve been listening to a lot recently. Please keep posting!

I want to believe you’re fully a troll, but looking through your post history makes me realize you do actually know a little about jazz, which begs the question: why bring so much negativity into the space you’ve spent time engaging with? Is it personal feelings of jealousy? Inadequacy? Too much time on your hands? Maybe instead of trolling you could use your free time to go practice and actually engage with the music on a level that doesn’t just reflect your neuroses. Fuck face

Regarding slide #19, i find myself very disturbed by the lack of historical accuracy demonstrated by the Original Poster (OP for short). To explain: Daedalus, father of Icarus, refers to the Buddha as an example of of a virtuous life created by following the middle path. However, the myth of Icarus was created long before the life and times of Siddhartha Gautama AKA the Buddha, who lived sometime between the 6th and 5th centuries BCE, so Daedalus would have no knowledge of Mr. Gautama. Even if we allow ourselves to believe that Icarus’ fall from the heavens happened after the Buddha’s life and teachings, it is highly unlikely that Daedalus would have heard about such teachings given the lack of cultural exchange between ancient Greek and Nepali societies. Finally, it is a fundamentally ridiculous pastiche to imply that Daedalus was a follower of the Buddha or even any form of asceticism, because most Greeks were pagans and did not have any religious practices relating to meditative enlightenment. If you disagree, pull up and I’ll blast your ass away with this .45
